GPS and winch switch mount on 650?
#1
I am planning on a new 650 soon, and I have a Ram GPS mount that will need to be put on it. Is there room anywhere on the handlebars to mount it? I haven't looked at the machine real close yet and when I do I forget to look at some things. Also, can the winch switch be mounted on the handle bars? I'm not a fan of the switch mounted on the front rack. Any pics would be appreciated so I can show the dealer where it can be mounted. The Ram mount I will be doing myself, so hopefully there is room somewhere. Thanks for any help.

If you go the A2000 kit, you should have gotten the A2500! Just kdding, the only place I can think of for the A2000 switch that doesnt suck, is shown on this picture on another model:

uck! I hate that second one. Yours looks pretty good. Does that switch only come with the 2500? I planned on a 2000 because I have seen plenty of HO's with the 2000's and they work fine for that heavy of a machine. If they work for a 700 lb machine they will work for a 600 lb machine. Can that switch be had without buying the 2500? Thanks for the reply.

Yes, that switch only comes with a 2500 kit. It has a black handheld remote that can mount to the handlebars which I did not like. You can get an upgrade kit if you already have the A2000.
I carefully removed the toggle switch from the remote and adhered it to the inside of the plastic. You never even see it, so you don't have to worry about people pushing it, unless you show them. I wired it hot always, cuz I was too lazy to do anything else. The A2500 relay does not use power when you aren't using the winch like the A2000 relay does.
The A2000 and A2500 are the SAME winch, just with different wiring and relays and that remote thingy that I hate. I pulled the switch guts out of the rubber housing on the remote, then sanded most of that plastic encapsulation off, and I used lots of goop to glue it on. It will never come off. It is water proof. I cleaned the area, roughed it with sandpaper and softened it with goof off to make sure I got good adhesion. It really was not hard to do it. Go for it. Just run real good quality wires, and route them carefully so you never have an elctrical prob.

Thanks for the tip, but I don't think I'll be wiring it myself. Since I quit buying and installing stereos in my trucks, I have no drive to do any wiring. My stereos were enough for me. I guess I'm just not good at it and don't have the right tools. I didn't purchase anything yet, but I think I'm going to stick with the 2000lb. I think the 2500 is about 200 bucks higher. Anyways, thanks for the help and advise.

I had the same reservations about the huge dial switch of the Warn 2000 winch. My solution was to buy the Warn Rocker Switch. You can get a look at the switch at Warn's web site. I'll try to take a picture of it this weekend. I mounted it on the handelbars on the left side. I use the 650 to plow during the winter and to use the throttle with my right hand I wanted the switch by my left hand. I can use it without moving my lefthand off the grip. It looks almost factory, it's sweet.

Thanks DirtyDawg.
I called the dealer and he says he has the switches in stock, but he says it's almost $50. To me it is worth it not to have that big dial.
BTW, I couldn't find it on the Warn site. Your pic will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Guys
I had problem with the 2500 big remote switch .So I went to radio shack picked a toggle switch and wired it up cost $15.00 .I mounted the switch in the plactic on the handle bar. It seem to look great plus works very well. Then I also mounted the remote switch outlet too .So now I have a toggle switch in the plastic and outlet mount of front side of the below bar. I keep the remote switch in the staoge compartment if needed but can work winch anytime from thetoggle on the bars. Wiring this up was very easy.
