Speed of prarie 400
#3
My 4x4 would register 56 mph on the speedo, but I never checked it with a gps before I put my 26" tires on it.
The excelleration is great for a stock 400, but I've never ridden another 400 auto so I can't really compare it to another.

A friend of mine has one (97?) with big Titan 589's? on it and it'll barely hit 40. It may be because it's on it's original bore with about a zillion miles on it. His does have a Supertrapp IDS and dynojet kit. I've ridden it and it couldnt get up even small dunes, it just ran out of momentum. Had plenty of torque, it would dig holes in the dune. It is pretty plush and rides very nicely and it's pulled my sport quads out of more than one mudhole. Anybody got some performance tips for the Prairie 400?

The older 400's ,98 and below did not have near the HP or acc. that the 99 and up had , I used to have a 99 prairie 400 and had a friend that had a 97 , the 97 ran like a new 300 does ,it was a lot slower . They 99 and up would take off about the same as my old Ruby and would run a couple of mph faster than my ruby would run.

mr45auto, if it's got a "zillion miles on it" it could most likely use a tranny tune up. New belt & replace the parts that are worn out.
Does it loap at idle like a helicopter hovering? my 97 did.
I saw my friends 97 smoke the belt when he got in a bind with 27" vamps. Too much grip to spin the tires.
