hello again,
the best set up that the majority of us found is, supertrapp IDS2 exhaust, aftermarket air filter, dynojet jet kit, 13T counter sprocket.

This gives it a totaly different feel, I found the extra power even made the suspention feel a lot better and the GPS readings were 58mph, up from 51mph stock.
Tell rapdaddy that the jet kit is a must for the lakota, and just changing the mains won't do.

All these items can be purchased at www.rockymountainatv.com for $298, and this included shipping.

Also, you can get high compression piston, 322 big bore kit, 354 stroker kit and a cam from four stroke tech.

I've been told the IDS2 offers better performance than the DG and I know it has a better throaty town over the DG's obsean loudness.

hope that helps mrs attitude

MrsAttitude,

I also ride the Lakota Sport and have completed some of the performance mods that Gaff has listed. I know that you didn't mention it (yet...Its only a matter of time) but something better than stock tire will help its performance on trails as well. I replaced my rears with GCB 22X11X10 Dirt Devils and the fronts with 22X9X10 GCB Dirt Devils. The overall handling performance has went up greatly. The tires really hook up well in the mud and hardpack but don't do as well in the sand. I also went with ITP .190 aluminum rims which will help you lose a few pounds of unneeded weight.

Just my .02 cents worth.

Best Regards and Good Luck with the Lakota. Its a great quad in the tight and twisty woods.

DLFLY2000, I have heard that the Dirt Devils do well in the sand, if you reverse them.

mrs. attitude,
The mods. Gaff listed is the way to go, will be a diff. machine. I have not yet done the 13t sprocket (Yeah, I know Gaff, I'll order one tonight!), but the pipe, jet kit, and filter make a huge diff.

Stebob,

I haven't tried reversing the Dirt Devils for running in the sand yet but I bet you are right. The Dirt Devils do have a directional tread pattern and looking at the tires, they do sorta make a nice v tread pattern in the middle. The problem I have with them is that they excavate so much sand from under them when you get on it that the Lakota is kinda slow at take off and doesn't launch well. The tires are not hooking up and jut spinning. It does slide well with them as the tailend fells loose all the time. It makes for some really tight donuts(about 10" circle on front inside wheel track).

I'll try turning them around the next time I head to Dunes and see what happens. I'll also post results here when I get back.

The Dirt Devils do very well in the mud. I had the bike up in Gaffs neck of the woods over Xmas and was riding in a flooded cane field. A friend of mine had his Rancher 4WD there and he got stuck in the deep stuff. I moved a lot of mud that day but didn't get stuck. The trip hooked me on mud riding though. So much so that I went and bought a new Honda Foreman 450 S, 27X11X12ITP 589 MS tires on ITP Chrome Delta wheels, Center caps and Lugs, and a High Lifter Lift Kit. Lift kit arrives today and I should have it ready to go in a couple of days. This thing is going to be a Monster when I get finished. That may be a while as I have a few more mods to go yet(Locker, winch, HP kit, skid plates, etc...)Thinking about doing it through High Lifter with a financed deal on the package. It might be sooner than later! I hope.....

Best Regards to All
Dale
