650 speed

They will wheelie IF you can get traction. I can wheelie from a 10-12 MPH role on a grass field. I think Dextreme is on to something about the tire pressure. I am at the recommended specs of 4 lbs in the fronts and they squat just sitting there. I would imagine that the tire turns into a wobbling donut while going 60 mph. I'll pump them up tomorrow to 6 psi and see how it goes if it is warm out.

I have about 300 miles on my 650 and I can wheelie it at will , as far as top speed goes it will run close to 70 , probably 68 or so , It will hit 65 easy but I have not stayed in it to see what it would do full out.I could also get a wheelie on my old prairie 400 and my old Rubicon. I am close to sea lvl here and that makes a big difference.

I didn't think mine would wheely either because of the way the power gets to the wheels. I normall ride on dirt and sand. I was in a pasture one time and took off like I had been doing in the dirt when I felt a little cocky. I was surprised that after about 15 feet the front end came up like a dragster part way down the drag strip. I was impressed. Don't let anyone tell you the 650 will not pull wheelies. BTW, I had my 650 to 64 mph and backed off for a turn, never held it again to see how fast it will go. I wont be going that fast anyway. Have fun, but be careful. You're on a mean machine...

BigBadCat,
I am not trying to get things going with an argument. . .
I recently test-drove a Grizzly 660. I took it on a 45 mile run. We were close to sea-level. The temperature was about 10 degrees F. We were riding on frozen sand.
I got that stock machine up to 70 mph, at least according to the Speedo. Since I don't ride sport-quads, that was the fastest I have ever ridden an ATV. There was nothing there that could keep up, not even close, so I could not verify the accuracy of the speedometer at 70mph. However, I did compare the speedometer with 3 other farily new machines at slower speeds. It was pretty much dead-on.
Sorry.

My thoughts on wheelies...
I think there are very big differences from machine to machine. For instance, I had a 01 grizzly 600 that would go maybe 55, my buddy has one that will keep up with my prairie at 60mph..
My wife has a kodiak 400 4x4 that wheelies easy, I havent seen many that will. As far as my prairie it will wheelie but I have to pull on the handlebars pretty good, Plus I have a winch in the front and 26 inch dirt devils. With stock tires and no winch it was really light in the front. Its not that it comes up easy like a sport quad, just has so much power that when it starts to come up its harder to control... Not sure if you know what I mean..
Even so mine will not do 70 nore will it do just barely hits 65 after about 1 mile. gets to 60 real quick.

My friend and I both have 650's and they top out at 63 mph. Their real quick getting to 60 mph but then take their time to 63. As for wheelies, on a stock 650 you have to pull back pretty hard on dirt and grass, on pavement it is pretty easy. If you have done like I did, and installed an HMF exhaust system, Jet Kit and K&N airfilter then you can wheelie at will on any surface without having to pull back. In case anyone is interested, my 650 with the HMF, Jet Kit and Filter will walk the dog on my friends stock 650. Mine accelerates almost twice as fast as his. Top end did not change any, but that is okay because 63 mph on a four wheeler is nuts, and going much faster could blow the engine. At top speed these things must be revving at 8000 rpm or more, deffinetly the limits for a 4 stroke engine.

hey guys~
I don't own a prairie or even ridden with one...just want to give a little insight. I do own a 650 though. The surface you are riding on will make a huge difference in your top speed. I was riding out on the frozen lake yesterday with my DS and had a gps along. When I was on bare ice(with studded tires), I would be hitting the rev limiter at about 75.7mph. Once I got onto some hard packed snow, I would drop down to roughly 70-71mph. If I hit even about 2" of fluffy snow, I would drop down to about 65mph. These same circumstances would apply for dirt also. Don't get too caught up on top speed...you rarely get there anyway. You will be more beneficial if you can get there fast.

Hey guys, I've been reading these forums for over a year doing research on which quad to buy. I'd have to say it's literly been a life long dream for me and I got a 650 in October and I love it! I've recently purchased a K&N Filter and a Dynojet but I'm a computer d o r k and I don't know anything about engines. Is it a waste of time for me to install the jet kit and not install a replacement exhaust?
