22 hrs and 116 miles and absolutely no problems to date. I changed the oil filter, oil, front & rear gearbox oils and added a trailer hitch when doing the 10 hr service. I've got a 2500 Warn Winch coming and hope to have it mounted as soon as the weather here in SLC warms up. Overall, I love this machine it handle well and runs great from 5,000 ft to 9,000 ft without a hiccup.

13 hrs and 64 miles and still runs good
had a small problem with the shifter linkage, but got that fixed in short order.
other than that no problems.
found the limits of the stock tires the other day.
it took my truck to pull it out of the hole it was stuck in.
i will be replacing the stockers with either a set of GBC Gators or Maxxis Mudbugs in 26 inch in the near future.
plenty of power i like having!!!

I WAS CHECKING OUT YOUR AWESOME PHOTOS AND I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS ANY MODIFICATIONS DONE TO THE GRIZ BECAUSE ALL I'VE BEEN READING ABOUT IS HOW WATER GETS IN THE BELT AND CAUSES IT TO SLIP ALOT. I WAS JUST CURIOUS BECAUSE I'M TRYING TO DECIDE ON WHETHER I WANT TO GET A GRIZ OR KAWIE. (I DO ALOT OF MUD AND WATER RIDING.

My friend and I both got stuck in the same riverbed, me with my 650 and him with his griz. I actually sunk deeper, and my exhaust was submereged, and I was in for 10 minutes, since I attached my winch to the wrong tree and pulled it down and had to start over.
He was only there for five minutes and his belt got wet. Although there is a drain plug on the griz, and he used it, his belt stayed wet and continued to slip for 45 minutes afterwards. This and the fact that the gas tank boils for some people if it gets used real hard (and slow). Running board breakage is expensive on the griz too.
The griz has a great balance of power and nice suspension. I would still pick the prairie 650 again if I had to choose again. If there were no prairie, I would pick the griz over the other stuff.

I have narrowed my choice down to a 650 and a Polaris 700. I have trails by my house but also live in the north and love to run in deep snow and use the ATV for hunting. I really like the kaw 650 but also like the 700 with the independent rear suspension. What are your opinions?

HEY DUSTANKO, NO OFFENSE AGAINST THE POLARIS 700 BUT I HAVE SEEN ONE OF THEM RUN AND THERE IS A REALLY BAD CLUNKING NOISE IN THE REAR OF THE MACHINE AND IT DOESN'T SOUND VERY HEALTHY. SURE IT IS FAIRLY QUICK AND ALL BUT I THINK I'VE DECIDED ON THE KAWIE. I HAVE DOWNLOADED A COUPLE OF VIDEOS ON IT AND IT IS FLAT OUT AWESOME!!!!!!! IT'S PRETTY BAD WHEN THE SALESMAN AT THE LOCAL YAMAHA/POLARIS DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT HE WOULD NEVER OWN A POLARIS. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THEY ARE KNOWN FOR THEIR BELTS GETTING WET AND SLIPPING. I RIDE WITH A GUY THAT HAS A POLARIS SPORTSMAN 500 AND MY WOLVERINE WILL DO EVERYTHING THAT HIS WILL DO AND EVEN RUN NOSE TO NOSE WITH IT ON A STRAIGHT AWAY. ANYWAY, GO KAWIE!!!!!!!!

When I first went and looked at the new 650 last August I was amazed. I went in and asked to hear it...they were a little reluctant but they gave in and started it up. I loved the sound of it...the sound of raw, V-twin power...unbelievable. So I started to ask the guy about it...whats up with it and all the power. I was hooked but wouldn't allow myself to be shaked by some salesman. He responded by saying that with the reverse over-ride on, the machine would lay a 20' strip of rubber on pavement in reverse. I was like Bull chit...then he got on it, drove it to the end of the driveway of the dealership, whipped the rear end around, made a tight corner on 2 wheels and then proceeded to ride a wheelie by me for about 100' with that sweet V-twin roar...it was all over.
I picked up my machine 10 days later.

15hours & 140 miles shift link had to be adjusted the day I brought it home. Other than that no problem. Had it 4 days & took it to Daniel Boone park down @ Slade Ky. Beautiful country & the 650 climbed all over it. Havent let it rest since. A good friend who works at the dealership has warned me though to be careful of the big tire kits as he sees a lot of front drive train damage he atributes to this. He knows how I ride and said a little tire slippage would save me a load of jack. Any heavy thumbs out there might be warey. Just my 2 cents. If she breaks she breaks but I'll enjoy every bit of it.
