Has anyone tried shifting from 2wd to 4wd while moving? The manual seems to have a reason for not doing everything. It says no to because you "may lose control due to different handling characteristics," and No because drivetrain damage MAY occur. I'm sure drivetrain damage will occur if you shift when your burnin out but what about shifting while you coasting, or while wheels arent spinning?

I have shifted from 2wd to 4wd while moving. Always come off the throttle and then just change. Changes after rolling a little but by then back on throttle. Also have gone from 4wd to 2wd at a higher speed but the bike did not change until my speed really slowed down. Ran for a little while with display saying 4wd with the switch set to 2wd. Didn't seem to bother anything.

I have found that mine works much better and smoother if I shift from 2 to 4 or back while moving. The computer wont let you shift until you are under 20 kms anyway.

Same thing here. My dealer said not to engage 4x4 until you are moving 15kmh or less. Tried to engage it at a dead standstill and it wouldn't go in. Moved about 10 feet and it slipped right in. I put it in 4x4 the same way Uncle does. Get rolling and let off on the gas until you are just coasting. Hit the 4wd button, wait a sec and gas er, works every time. For getting it out of 4x4, I slow down, hit the 2wd button, give er a little shot on the throttle and then let off. Comes out really well. Some guys don't realize that you have to take the pressure off of the gears in order for them to release. Ya gotta realize that there is only a small 12vdc electric solenoid engaging and disengaging 4wd. Like any other quad out there, the 650 has it's little quirks. It's the raw power I was looking for, and I love mine!!!
