Gators on the Prairie 650
#1
I changed my stokc today to Gators. Kept it Stock 25x8 front and 25x10 rears. Cost 52.00 for both front and rear here. I Love them. The 6 ply and 7 pounds of air pressure sure give a good bite. I even had a chance to do a little wading up to the fenders and pulled through no problem. I was going to get dirt devils but the guy who sells the tires told me the Gator was more suited for riding the way I do lots of moist pakced clay and the Hatfield McCoy trail. They ride good on the asphalt also a little howl but hey the lugs are deep.

I was considering these tires for my prairie also. The thing is that most of my riding is on hardpack dirt, I rarely see mudout here in California. I like to slide my prairie and roost on hardpack. Will these tires be good? I was considering the Mudrunners also. Do you guys think 26's are too big to keep the bike sporty feeling through the corners etc? Can anyone suggest a tire for my purposes?

I have 26" goodyear mudrunners. I have not lost any of the sport feel. It'll still powerslide and the stability is better, probably due to the width of the tires. They ride a little rough on pavement but on hardpack they are fine.

Hey thumpin650, have you considered Maxxis All Trek? All the Prairie 650’s and Grizzly 660’s that I have seen set up for X-Country racing seam to be using these tires. They look like they would make the 650 even sportier. I ride in conditions like you, and like you I want my Prairie 650 to be sporty feeling and handle good. I don’t know if I will ever see any mud with my Prairie, just desert type hard pack, loose dirt and rocky, gravely conditions. They come in the stock size of 25-8-12, front and 25-10-12 rear. I always see them on Bead Lock rims, and the combination looks awesome But I haven't found out were you could by a package deal, Bead Lock Rims, with the Maxxis All Trek tires. Anybody out there know, I sure would like a set

Thumpin,
If you don't run any mud may the 589 MT or the Dirt Devil may be your choice of tire. I chose the Gator because like anybody that lives in the east will tell ya you can't go riding without finding that one mudhole that you have to cross. The Gators seem alright on the hard pack as I could roost up anywhere. However they bite hard when they do bite. They are a stiff tire however and make your quad a bit tight.
Hope this helps.
