I'm a personal friend of Mike's and no he does not have a web site. The reason his phone number is in the DW mag is that he makes some sweet accessories for the 650 like his angled footpeg extensions. Coolinthewoods, go ahead and give Mike a call. He'll be more then happy to answer your questions for you.

Hey OldmanWheeler, how do you like your Maxxis All-Traks? I was thinking about putting those on my Prairie 650. How do they handle compared to the stock tires? Also, how does the traction of the All-Traks compare to the original tires? I ride in dry conditions out here in Vegas. Mainly loose gravel, dirt trails, hard pack and rock. I want to replace the stocks tires only with something that is as sporty. Are they the same height? Also did you buy them as a kit with the OMF Bead Locks, or separately? How much did you pay for your rims with the Bead Locks, and where did you get them? Are the All-Traks 2 or 4 ply? Sorry for all the questions, but I am very interested in those tires and Bead Locks, but couldn't really find any info on them on Prairies. Hope you can help, and maybe point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Hey Oldmanwheeler- Yeah I've been wanting to call him and ask some question about clutching for my Outlaws, the bad thing is I live in Alaska and the time zone kills, Is that his home phone # or work? I hate to bug him at home. Could you pass the message along to him? and have him E-mail me if its not a hassal. the question are Should I Reclutch for my 28 Outlaws and if so what wieghts and springs should I use? And what are the performance gains from the cams he offers? If you could pass that along that would be great! My E-mail is jori-jessep@gci.net Thanks Oldmanwheeler Jesse Pearson

Hey Area51 & Coolinthewoods:
Hope you both are having a great day.
Area51, I love the Maxxis All-Trak and feel it is one of the better all around tires available on the market. I have ridding them in everything from mud to sand to snow and they have always worked great. I bought the tires separate from the rims. They are the same size tire as the OEM Dunlap’s but they have a wider footprint (the part of the tire that actually touches the ground) then the original Dunlap’s and I think that is what makes them a good all around tire. I purchased the OMF Bead Locks directly from OMF. They offer both the Bead Lock version of the rim or the reinforced rims. The reinforced rims are cheaper then Bead Locks and quite honestly they are probably the best buy.
The All-Traks are a 2 ply tire. I went to the local semi truck tire dealer and got tire sealant from them - I've always had much better luck with there’s then I have with over the counter tire sealer.
We are in the process of building a Prairie 650 Project Quad. I've been riding the Project Quad since we decided to build it last fall and every thing we have done to it has improved the quad or the item was removed and replace with another product. In fact it kind of has gotten out of control because we have had so many ideas and products we ended up building a second Prairie 650 using a friend’s quad. His wife is ready to kill both of us! This has given us the opportunity to experiment with different ideas and products. In the end we end up using the best idea on both of them so know we have two awesome quads! We really have some awesome items coming from some of the aftermarket manufactures such as stiff front springs, 100 watt lights that mount and move with the handle bars for superior night riding, a new, more aggressive rear shock, a twist throttle and many other items so stay tune.
Coolinthewoods, Mike is a good ol' boy from Georgia and he could care less if he had a web site or e-mail, he would rather be out ridding and testing his products. The number listed in DW is his business, Mike owns a small engine shop and builds most of his parts there. I know the time difference stinks but half of the experience of learning from Mike is being able to visit with him. Tell him Bob from Iowa says "howdy", he'll know who you’re talking about. He is such a great individual don't pass up the opportunity to visit with him.
Area51 & Coolinthewoods, go to the local machine shop and find a piece of black pipe about the same size as the lower bumper and have it wielded just below the water cooler screen and then have them tack the bottom of the screen three or four times across the top of the pipe. This will support the screen and protect the front of the quad if you hit a large rock, tree, etc….. I know it works 'cause I hit a tree last week and that pipe we weilded in safed the whole front end. This is just a sample of what you can expect in our upcoming article(s) on our Project Quads.
Hope you both are having a great day.

OldmanWheeler, thanks for all the info. I will probably use my Dunlap’s until they are worn down, and then replace them with the Maxxis All-Traks. I have a green Prairie, so I don't know if some aftermarket rims (Polished Aluminum) will look good on it or not. What cooler is yours? I love the look of the Bead Lock rims though, and would like to install them with the Maxxis All-Traks, but I just don't know how they will look on my green Prairie. Maybe I will have to just put the Maxxis tires on my stock rims. Do you have any pictures of your Prairie 650? I would love to see it with all your mods. Thanks again, for all the info.

Area51, the first 650 I had was green and the bead locks look awesome. After it burned in the fire I got a red one. Kaw just changed their red to a much deeper red and it really looks cool. Coolinthewoods, everything we have done for the Project Quad anyone can do, it just takes a little time and some basic tools. Like me if there's something your not comfortable doing just find someone who is and buy them a 6-pack of beer. When you read the article you will know exactly what I mean. Later guys.
