Just tore down a 1990 Mohave to replace idler gears for kick start. Had to do complete teardown to replace reverse gear shaft that bad idler rounded down. Now, after putting it all back together, I have a concern. The clutch housing, and shaft it's on, has about 1/8 inch of movement back and forth. That is you can pull on the pin or housing and the whole assembly will easily move outward, then inward about 1/8 inch. Since I took it apart a month ago, waited for parts so long, I can't remember if that's normal. The gears on the back of the housing mesh OK despite the movement. Turning over by hand, shifting thru the gears, all seems to be fine.
I hate to have to tear this down again to check only to find out it's normal.
I also would hate to hear the motor grind to a halt first time it's started. Anyone have any input? Thanks.

My 01 mojave does the same thing. I wouldn't worry about it. I only have a summers worth of mileage so its not like its wore out. I noticed mine when I installed a barnett clutch and springs.

The barnett kit cost me 110.00 through Jl Atv products. It seems to have a much more positive feel than the stocker but I'll tell you more when all the snow melts.

Thanks. That was normal.
All went well, cept' for a stripped clyinder head cover bolt slot. The others aren't enough to hold cover down tight, oil blows out agound gasket there. We'll try a longer bolt to see if we can catch some new threads.
