Does anyone know what would cause the Mojave 250 to constantly keep on engaging the reverse gear all by itself when downshifting into first? Is it something that is easily fixed? The reverse will not stay "turned off" even tho the swith isn't engaged, it will jump inot the reverse gear everytime all by itself! Is this a common problem with the Mojave? Thanks in advance for any and all help!

the safter stop on the reverse is not engaging in the trayy dry to follow the cable and see if it is moving when the reverse is disengaged

Mine did the same thing. Pull the cover off on the bottom where the cable goes in. It probably has gunk built up in there causing the rod to stick. I used WD-40 and sprayed it and worked the rod back and forth with a small pry bar until it started moving freely again. I then used chain/cable lube and sprayed it real good and put the cover back on. Also lube the the cable real good, it can cause it to stick also, but it sounds like it is the rod under that cover. It is pretty simple to do and you don't want to keep throwing it into reverse while moving forward.

Thanks for the help everyone! Problem solved!... but now I have another question.....what would cause the motor to have a "slapping" sound in it when you rev it off idle? It only does it just off idle and then you don't hear it as the motor revs up. Could it be timing chain slap? If so is there any way to stop it from doing this? Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it totally!

The "slapping" sound you hear is probaly a spark knock. Try using a higher octane gas and it will go away.

If the quad has a lot of miles on it the noize might be piston slap. My 97 mohave does it also high octane gas didn't help.
