Winch Break-in

I just bought a winch and it says to pull 1000 lbs to stretch the cable. What did you guys pull to do that and did you anchor the ATV to get it to pull the wieght. Or how did you stretch it or did you.

Well I never broke mine in, but the one time I had to use it, I hooked to the front grab hook on a extended cab Chevy and it slid the truck about 10 feet before I got unstuck.
