Prairie 650 experience
#1
Just thought I'd drop a not on my experiences with the 650, so others could relate similiar problems, fixes, etc.
Not sure how many miles I've got, but it's well broke in.
First problem/experience: Front end picks up lots of sticks and limbs, and can cause damage to boots and hoses. Lost a rear boot on the front drive shaft first trip to woods. Keep an eye on your front end, it will pick up limbs (at least worse than my Polaris did).
Second: Same as others, drive train slack, belt squeeking some on takeoff... hard to shift sometimes too (I was used to Polaris' one shift from either high or low to neutral)
Third: Leaking anti-freeze. It seems to be boiling over into overflow, and not going back into radiator. Leaking around overflow tube...suspect possible bad cap. I'm checking on that.
Fourth: Very cold natured. Misses at low speed with no load until VERY warmed up. Backfires sometimes deccelerating from mid to WOT just before coming to idle.
I've read about the IRS on the Grizzly. I too was in a quandry as to which to buy. I use mine for mainly hunting, and when I had my Polaris with IRS, when the back rack was loaded, I lost all ground clearance. Hence, I went with solid axle. I did notice the IRS seemed to stick better in turns without tipping as compared to solid axle. Another quirk is fan running after key is shut off...hard to hear your hounds running unless you walk away from ATV.
This is not a dig, I'm very pleased with the 650. I can put a dog box on back, and still have enough room for a passenger if needed.
If anyone has any insight on the leaking antifreeze, I'd appreciate the input, as both dealers in my area are morons (they didn't even know where the fuel shutoff was, or if it even had one)...
Sorry for the long post. New to forum, and just thought I'd share my experience.
