tires and rims for lakota sport
#1
what tires and rims should i get for my lakota. what size should i get? i dont want to modify anything in order to change tire size. where can i get a good deal on tires and rims on the internet? i do alot of rocky trails as well as alot of woods and power line riding. What would be the best choice for tires and rims? any help would be appreciated.

You may want to check the discussion threads on May 13 on tire choices. Keep in mind what machines these people are running. I think you can't go wrong with Gaff's choice on the front, but with stock power, you may not be able to slide or roost with the razor / holeshot type tire. On a stock motor, I would look at the All Track on 22-11-9 aluminum wheels. The 9 inch Al wheels will reduce the weight and rotating intertia and put more rubber between the rocks and the wheel.

I personally have not run aluminum wheels (yet), so I can't speak from experience, however, Al is softer, more ductile and has a lower yeild stress than steel. I guess these properties along with a basic rim design difference would cause the Al wheel to "nick" as opposed to "crimp" as steel wheels do. Maybe I'm wrong? But by dropping to a 9" wheel, you'll add 1/2" of rubber on the radius which might be enough to protect the metal from damage. If this philosophy is applied further... an eight inch wheel would provide even more protection, this at a the cost of added side wall flex. As far as I know, all hubs have the same bolt pattern, so a 10 inch wheel or an 8 inch wheel should fit on a hub.

What's up:
Both the Mojave and Lakota have a bolt patteren that is (4 by 156),
that size is too big for 8" or 9" rims. You can get some new hubs from durablue with a (4-110) bolt patteren, that is made to bolt on the the Mojave or Lakota. With the 4-110 you can put 9" rims and I think 8" too.
jwkawi since you do a lot of rocky trail and woods, you might want to try the Pure Sport Bandits. They have a very strong tread that would last on the rocks and they do very well on the trail, in loose terrain, hardpack, snow and mud. They can be a bit on the heavy side if you get the X/C which is Kevlar belted, but if you go with the 4ply A/T then the weight isn't that bad.

Thanks for the input so far. I think I am going to stay with stock size on my tires and rims. The question is what brand and style is the best for my kind of riding. Also, no-one has given me any hints on a good place to buy them on the internet. Any suggestions please.
