IDS2 Pipe ??
#2
With the paper work that comes with a IDS2 it states thier is no performance gain from the quiet to the race core unless internal mods are done to the motor.
I have both and can tell you they are correct. Now that I have engine mods I don't use a quiet core at all. I bought a race core, just the core for $45 from supertrapp and it is very easy to swop cores.
The quiet core maxxes out at abot 10 disc. After 10 disc thier is no flow difference due to the added restriction of the quiet core.
The difference of the 2 are the race core has a straight perferated pipe that runs threw the core as the quiet core has 2 offset pipes for added restriction.

Hey gaff-
Not to say what you felt is wrong, but on my bike I did notice an increase in power when I went to the race core and got it jetted right. I too started out with the quiet series and got the race core later.
You can get the race core IDS2 from www.denniskirk.com

it's realy so hard for me to tell. I tried to state what I thought. But like you mordr I play the jetting game so much it's hard to say.
Now I play the compression vs jetting game and with the seasons changing, well you know what I mean.
To be totally honest I liked the quiet core better just because it was quieter. The race core is waaaay louder.

I have to agree with you on how loud the race core is-I liked the rumble of the quiet series, open without any disks. The race core is just that-meant for racing-straight thru and very loud. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone who has to ride in areas close to where others live-you'll get a lot of complaints-just what atver's don't need.
Gaff-how's the 330 'Kota doing against some of the other quads? Embarrass anyone lately?

Well sense I did the kit I haven't realy been able to race any one. I don't realy drag race quads so that hasn't happen.
I Did do very well in a XC race about a month or more ago. I raced open class and was holding a strong second, then blew a head gasket. Realy bummed me out.
I have had some trouble jetting it. due to the high compression the jetting goes down instead of up. I use a mix of race fool to help keep the cooling on the motor at it's max, but haven't ran into a over heating problem with pump fuel.
Using the race fuel will trip you up on doing plug chops. If you just only do jet changes after a few hours of hard riding it tells me what to do thow. I just have to dial in the air/fuel mixture in just a bit more. I have just a slight hessitation rite off idle.
But beyound that crap it realy is strong. Will ware you down quick too if you go out and try to realy pinn it every were.
I MX practice atleast 2 times a week on a real large SX style track and it handles it's self real well against my buddies LT250R.
I have to replace the clutch and springs thursday when I get home. The semi auto is slipping pretty good when banging 3rd, 4th and 5th. But if you stay in a gear and try to use the power it does hold and is a hand full.
I would like to get the cam for it maybe during the mid summer braek of racing season. I still can float the valves if I wanted to pinn it hard in a lower gear.
All and all it realy halls butt

Hey Mojave1,
I would go with the quiet series IDS2. I agree with Gaff about the disks, although I am running 12 disks with small spacers on the last disk to open it up a little more. I originally tried 8 disks, then 10 for a long time. One day I decided to try it without any disks. It made a little difference but popped and backfired louder and more often. So I put back all 12 disks and turned the a/f mixture screw out 3.0 (was 2.75). The backfiring stopped and there was no difference in power between no disks and 12 disks. The quiet series has a nice rumble and is a little loud at full throttle, but still quiet enough to use in the local areas near homes. I do not think there will be any difference between the quiet and race core on a stock motor, like Gaff says. I ride with 3 others who all have Mojaves and the Supertrapp IDS2 quiet series and they love it. Rocky Mountain ATV has the best price. Good Luck.
P.S.
Hey Gaff, how has it been going? I have been reading the posts, but not much time to write. I put 1.5 inch spacers on the back of the Lakota and it helped corning quite a bit. It is now 45.3 inches wide which I feel the stock axle can handle. I was afraid to go with the 2.5 inch spacers, to wide. The Lakota is running great, but The new Z400 comes here to Costa Rica in mid June, so I am going to take a look at it. I need more power!! Now my riding buddies put the Supertrapp IDS2 exhaust, twin air filter, 13T sprocket and 20" tires out back on thier Mojaves and they are beating me in the straightaways (big weight difference the major factor). I also took a look at the Warrior, but I am waiting to check out the Z400 before I decide anything about selling the Lakota. See ya.

300cr,
It's graet to see your still here. I see you and gmtech from time and again.
I like the Z400 and think it will be the future. Unfortunately for me the kids have been getting new quads so I'm still way down the list. My son is on the verge of the 03 KX 85 next month.
I have ridden MX, SX, and XC with the lakota and deffinately know about the wieght. The lakota holds it's own very well, but it takes alot more effort and is less forgiving when riding errors accur.
I wouldn't worry about those spacers. I've jumped big air and taken doubles, table tops and hard woop sections and think that the front and rear are more than strong enough for these task.
I did the opposite as you. I flipped my front wheels around adding 3" to the front and left the rear width alone. I found handling was excellent and nearly impossible to get in two wheel sittuations.
I also found after market tires are a cheap source of accelleration. The bite is unbelievable. I only suggest 20" tires to any one. I found I lost only 1/2 to 3/4" ground clearence but the accelleration is much better.
I also know that a after market clutch is another way to get the power to the ground. For my case I have friction disc and heavier springs going in thursday, this should help enormously. In your case I would change the springs, it's easy only a hour of labor. I found a good but inexspensive clutch kit. It's called K&G factory clutches. they offer kevlar friction disc ($26) and 20% heavier springs ($9). I get a 10% discount as well. If you need any let me know I can send them to you .
The 330 kit and basic other mods that go with it cost a total of about $400. I found this to be a very good power source and would suggest it to you if buying another quad kinda makes you scringe.
I have good power but no cam yet. Next month after I get the KX I believe I have enough for the cam and this should complete my package.
I also worked with the suspention alot and found a couple set ups that work very good. Realy like the ride. On the MX track I have to try a little harder but keep up and can lead at times very well.
This coming week end I will be meeting 98lakota for a XC race, I will PM you and let you know how I can stack up after that.
