I was riding along about 58 mph next to my brother on his new Z and my 650 lost power and started to blow blue smoke. It only has about 90 hours on it and is 7 1/2 months old. I havent had a chance to do a compression test on it but its not knocking or making any odd noise but it has no power. I'll keep you all in form what I find out.

First thing I would check is oil level. My dealer put in too much oil after first service and the oil went right into the airbox and into the carb, causing powerloss and major blue smoke, also overheating. Let us know how you make out.

coolinthewoods

Check your choke cable to the carbs even though it looks blue and you have lost power it could be those darn choke plungers. Pull them out, strech the springs and install that should do it. Mine was the same way for no reson the bike started chugging and no power and that was the problem let us now what you found out.

Checking the oil was the first thing I did, look full and clean. I havent had a chance to look over the machine yet working 10 hour days. My be tommorro. It starts right up with a little gas applyed. I don't think it it should be the choke pluggers but hey what do I have to lose.

Coolinthewoods YEP!

Same as mine hard to start but with a little gas starts right up but won't idle proper sure as heck it's the choke cable. Yank those puppys pull the spring longer as to push the plunger out further, lube the tube with a white grease and reinstall. Problem solved, try heavier springs through Kawi Nyroc has pictures and numbers for direct replacement. If not happy with this there is a heavier spring set up with springs from a dirt bike KLM series I think thats what my dealer and I worked out. Give it a try.

check the air filter. I was cruising on the vinson and all the sudden it lost power i oculd only go like 12mph. I checked the air filter and it was so dirty from riding behind people on dusty roads
