My bayou is runnin really hot and seems a lil down on power. When its runnin, the oil in the sight glass doesnt go down anymore like it used to. I dont want to fry my 4-wheeler and I dont have the slightest clue whats wrong. Could the oil pump be bad and just not pumping very much?? I know it is pumping some because it when i got hot it started leaking a little bit of oil around the cover on the left side of the head and back by the driveshaft. Please help.

 

First of all, it sounds like you are running lean. Check the carb boot and make sure it is not ripped and that it is tightened down properly. Next make sure you do not have an exhaust leak. Try to find out if exhaust is coming out of any connections in the exhaust system. As an engine heats up, it loses power. If your quad has less power, that can be attributed to running hot.

Ok, I'll try lookin for a leak anywhere, and I'll try runnin it with the choke on just a lil bit and see if that helps, The oil not goin down in the sight glass must have been how I was lookin at it cause I started it today and the oil went down just fine. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks.

Quite a few people localy have had this problem with the 220.

The bayou motor has very "very" small cooling heat exchange pipes between the crank case and the air cooling /recycling system on the top (head) of the motor.

It does not take much for the flow to be interupted or slowed, and yes the bayou gets hot very quickly.

Also check your oil filter on your next oil change. The Bayou 220 is very hard on oil filters.

In cooler weather bayou 220 users put 5w30 instead of 10w30 in order to keep the oil flow constant.
