Dang it! Just like russian rulette, somebody gets stuck on the second page.

Rincon, Some quads may have sometype of synchronizing rings, or different shaped beveled teeth on the selector gears, maybe they can take it.

Our 650s do no not take kindly to moving the shifter while in motion. I think a lot of quads would need to be towed home if people did what you are describing. So, I think most of us 650 owners would not even think about trying this on ours. Very, Very bad thing to do to some transmissions. Although the 650 tranny is strong, they designed the gear system a certain way to save weight, like no spiral gears (gear whine) and no shift on the fly (broken pieces of gears if you shift on the fly).

Are you serious, or are you really just trying to get Packardbell to try this himself?

I honestly thought last nite when I saw this thread I was going to get to read a good joke. I had no idea where it was headed. But for anyone who hasn't read their owners manual if you try to shift your 650 at speed you'll be like the little dog on the comercial (THAT'S GONNA LEAVE A MARK)

Packard please tell me you weren't serious with this thread

Yeah Rincon, we got that is was an SP500 the first time, I doubt most of us have had an SP500. Most of my friends don't. Stop acting like we didn't read your post, it makes us think that you are chronologically challenged (or young, if you really are chronologically challenged enough to not know what it means).

When you asked if we ever did it, I just don't think anyone that posted on this topic ever has even thought of shifting an auto quad while moving. Even my friends that have Sportsmans won't try it.
It is just not a good thing.

However, I think it would be neat, if my 650 were made with the appropriate hardware for me to move the shifter from low to high while moving. I would not have to stop on hills to move into low anymore.

Another thing, if the pulleys were bigger, maybe there would be enough gear ratio to do away with having a low range. The cvt would just always start out at super low, and wind up at high with out the help of gears. I bet there is reason they don't do that.

You mean that I'm the only one here that shifts on the fly?? I use to stop to shift, but now I just slow down to shift, it goes in gear a lot better than just shifting from a stop. Oh by the way did I tell yall that I just got my P-650 back from the shop, I'm on my 4th tranny. I'm going to call Kawaski and tell them they have law suit headed their way if it blows another tranny!!

I am trully sorry that my computer @ work would not allow me to access this sight today, I would have love to jump in on this conversation. Anyway...

The reason that we haven't tried to shift a SP500, is becuse you are in the Kawasaki forum... We don't ride Polaris.

FYI- I changed my headlight fluid, it still had the winter fluid in it, put summer fluid in it and I got 155 out of it, maybe I will tighten that blower belt and put summer air in the tires.

I run pure nitrogen in my tires in the summer to avoid the effects of high temp on air pressure.
