Ok fellas, the fan blade came in and my buddy picked it up yesterday (it was his fan that was melted). Here is the info:

Price: $35
Not sure if all of this is important, but here is how it was listed on the shipping label:

Item Number
59041-1062
Fan
000025-44-05 (not sure what this number is)

Does anyone know anything about the fan motor itself? We connected the motor directly to the battery when we first took it out and it must have been loaded with dirt/mud because the motor was jammed and wasn't turning. We sprayed the outside edges with WD-40 and then sprayed the WD-40 up into the inside of the fan motor via the drain outlet. A lot of dirt came out and the motor began to turn. Kept spraying it and seemed to be ok but makes a loud whining noise.

We replaced his melted fan with the new one last night and put it back in the quad. When the fan came on the motor was loud and whining. We let it run for a while on and off and it didn't change. I sprayed a bunch of WD-40 back up into the drain inlet and the motor would quiet down for a bit but come back whining again a few seconds after.

My assumption would be that the motor got caked with mud (which it did) and mud got inside. It sounds like there are plastic gears inside the motor. I think that dirt/mud inside chewed up the gears and now the motor is loud. Anyone have any other ideas? Solutions?

The motor comes on and turns off regularly (like normal), fan spins and cools the bike down as it should...but it is just loud. My buddy is annoyed, but for another $350 for a new fan assembly, I think I'd pretend it was a supercharger for a while until I got used to it...or it burnt out.

Parker--No way to disassemble the motor housing? Sounds like something is STILL in there, dragging on the armature.
The other option is to run it 'till it jams/stops.

Casing is rivited shut, sealed. Only way to get in there is to split the casing by drilling out the rivets and see whats going on, but then you may never be able to get it back together right.

I told him we'd do that lastly, right before he buys a new fan motor anyway.
