This question is really bugging me. My brother and I took the MOCATE and his Tecate 4 to the Badlands over this last weekend. In case you don't know, the Mocate is a Mojave with a 2-stroke Tecate 3 motor. Anyhow, I've never owned a 2-stroke before, and now I don't know if I want to ever again. Kickstarting and always running at high rpm's got old real fast. I was looking into possibly buying the new KFX400, but then a buddy of ours came over with his P650. That was one bad-a$$ machine. I'm trying to decide whether I should stick with a sport quad, or switch over to the electric start 4x4 p650. Am I gonna kick myself later for not staying with a sport? What do you guys think?

You can take all the racks and bumpers off and the fender flares and make it sportier.

Or, you can get a winch, plow, boxes, gun scabbards, sprayer, mower, deer trailer, and a tow behind backhoe attachment if you feel that you want it to be more utility oriented. All that utility implies work. Work makes me thirsty. Maybe get a cupholder and a cooler too.

I'm so hesitant to lose that feeling that I can air out my quad, or dirt-track through the trails. But the thing that gets me the most is I can't stand to kick-start my quad and go so fast all the time. Electric start and 4-stroke are where I belong.

Other than the utility functions, what do you think as far as the handling of the p650? When you go riding with your buddies, are you cranking out the ***-end around the turns? I guess I just fear losing the fun of the sport quad. But then again, with a P650, there's so many more things I can use it for.

I keep up with my buddies 300ex farily well in speed he gets me in the turning because of the front end being a little soft but I ordered the new springs to help stiffin it up in the front. I know it will still out jump me but mine should handle a lot better and still have the great muddin' capability

How hard is the plow setup for snow? I work at Parts Unlimited, so I get dealer cost on everything. But, it looks like there's more to the plow that just the plow. Evidently there are mounting kits and brackets. I'm leaning towards the p650.

The Prairie 650 is an awesome machine with probably the best motor available in any quad. I also agree that it is very 'sporty' in that it accelrates pretty quick for a 600lb machine. The thing to remember is it's still 600lbs and will *never* handle like a true sport machine.

Same old question...What do you mostly like to do and who do you ride with? If everyone else in your riding group has sport quads and go to the dunes then, I would think a Prairie is not the right answer. OTOH, if you find that you are mainly riding trails at a medium pace then the Prairie would work well and still plow snow in the winter.

I guess the truth is that there is no perfect comprimise so, you have to balance what you will use it for the most. You will NOT be railing the dunes on a p650. It's just the nature of the beast.

BTW the KXF has electric start AND reverse. That's as much cush as I need.

The plow set up is fairly easy one mounting braket you can bolt on at the beginning of the winter and unbolt just as easyily after the snow has stopped falling to put the plow on the braket push 2 pins in and hook it to you winch or lift system.

That's pretty much what I was getting at and couldn't figure out. I need to decide what I will use it for the most. I've always had sport quads before, but the utility quad seems like it's something I could very easily put to use. I would just hate to go out and get a new sport or utility and then kick myself in three months for not getting the other. It's a hard decision. Almost frustrating.

I had the same issue but, when I finally sat down and thought about it I realized that I, personally, was buying/owning a quad because it puts a smile on my face when I ride it not because I wanted a tractor-type device. I then bought the Z and glad I did. I think it would be fun to have a P650 but it would sit a lot in the garage because what I find the most joy in is not plowing snow but, floating over sand or blasting up a trail or clearing a jump. OTOH, if you enjoy rock crawling or mud pitting then get a prairie and get the side benefit of putting the plow on it.

Of course, It is good exercise to get the ole' snow shovel out and while puffing along the thoughts of spring riding will keep you warm.
