I Emailed Maxxis the other day and expressed my wish to see a 26-9-12(or 9.5) size for the Sur Trak. Here is their response

"Thanks for your input on this size recommendation. I will have our market
research department check into the demand for such a size and make a
recommendation. Thanks again for your help.

Best regards,

David Presten *******@maxxis.com"

This means to me that enough people are not asking for this size!!!

Why? It seems silly to offer a 26-12-12 and not offer a front tire to go with it.

Email em and ask the same question. Maybe they will get the message.

I already bugged them about this. I bought the 26x12-12, and it is only 10" wide. The 9" wide spidertrak or 9" wide mudrunner makes a pretty good front for it.

They gave me their "Canned" answer. They are definitely out of touch with their market. Makes me mad at them.

Maxxis, does have some pretty cool tires, I am not going to boycott them, but I think I may buy bearclaws because they come in more sizes.

Nyroc..Considered Mudbugs??? I have a set on order, and should be in this Fri.. I've researched for about 3 month's (watching different forums, reading different comparisons on forums and websites and such). Wanted to stay with 25" so finally decided on the BUGS

I like mud bugs, but I already have mudzillas. They rule the mud. But they are not very good on snow or hardpack.

The 650 has plenty enough power for 28" mud tires. You should go for more ground clearance.

I think I need a wide tire that is less aggressive for snow and hardpack. I like the bearclaw. I could just get the rear ones, and either use my 26" musdrunners on the front or my 28" mudzillas on the front. There is nothong wrong with mixng and matching, as long as the diameter matches (and preferably, the rolling distance is 2 inches longer in back). Plus, tire mounting is a piece of cake. I don't remount everything, I have 8 rims. I just don't want more than 8 rims.

My Sur-Trax appear to be a fairly soft compound as they are wearing rapidly. The fact that my area of operation is in drought conditions may have something to do with it. Lots of rock-hard trails(clay/adobe). I may try 489's all-round next time. "So many choices, so little money................."

Nyroc..check out atvnation.com..they did a comparison between the mudrunners and mudbugs. They are sponsered buy maxxis, so I'm sure they infulenced some, but it was still kinda interesting. I too was leaning toward the mudrunners but weight difference won out in the end.

PS: weight is always a concern of mine..more weight..less speed..and I don't want ANYTHING to slow this baby down. Groung clearance not really a issue of mine, just speed!! and I do occasionally play in the mud holes (like pulling out a Recon the other day)

thanks for the heads up on the tire review.

trx450, if you ever decide to sell (or donate) used sur traks and/or spiders, I have a list of buds that can only seem to ever afford inexpensive used tires. Let me know when that time comes.
