New warn 3000ci winch

Do you really need a 3000# winch for a 600# machine? General off-road rule of thumb (from my jeep'n days) is 2.5 times the vehicle weight. Less will usually work, and more is wasted $$$ unless you're pulling out heavier rigs. But with a 600# anchor, you're not going to be pulling too heavy. You can get a 1500# winch brand new for about $140, add a pulley block for $20 and you have 3000# pulling capacity. Add 50 feet of 1" climbing web @ $0.30/foot and you can reach 75 feet from your rig, all for less than $200. 1" web is generally rated between 3000-3800#'s. It's good stuff, I trust my life with it on a regular basis.
This is of course just my opinion, but having a spare $200 for mods instead of dropping it all on a winch might be more fun than just having the biggest winch you can find.

The problem is what starts out to be a 600lbs machine on the showroom floor turns into a 750lbs machine with all the stuff added on and fueled up, then you add a fat beer bellied 200-300 lbs rider and ya are up to 1000 lbs. Then when you get stuck in mud, that is about another 100 of goop stuck in ever nook and cranny. So more pulling power the better.

MuddHound, Actually it is a warn, it's the 3.0ci. Trust me, I know, you're looking at the hunting accessories article that features a ramsey winch. There is another article titled "winching" that tests this new warn winch. I'm buying one as soon as I can find one. They aren't even on warn's site yet.
