p650 break in
#2
1. Don't put synth in it yet (some of us say). The oil manufacturers don't say this though.
2. Don't gas it hard.
3. Don't only run it at one rpm, vary it.
4. Never give a cold motor a lot of gas, especially pre break in. Pistons expand faster than cylinders, oil doesn't flow too well. This reduces compression on everything very fast.
5. Buy new tires and discard the dunlops.

I would recommend riding it for around 4-6 miles if you are on trails or for around 15-20 minutes. Stop and let it cool off, what ever it takes, 5-15 min then do it again. Repeat this process for 60-70 miles or 10 hours. This process will temper the engine components, valves, piston/rings ect. Plus, I/wife didnt go over half throttle when breaking the 650 in.
Everyone is different and has different beliefs about breaking in a new motor. This is only a suggestion and it is what I do.
Also the 10 hours/60 miles comes from the P650 owners manual. But the way I go about getting there is my idea of a break-in.

Everybody is gonna have their own opinion on this subject.Heres mine.
A New motor is very tight,I would be easy on it for the first 1/2 hour or so.After 1/2 hour I do what ever I need to do to keep up with everybody else, except for screaming its guts out. WOT,but slightly bogging it is good for pressing the rings into the cylinder walls.
If your too easy on it the rings may never seat, too hard on it and you ruin em.....stay somewhere in the middle.
