The Rincon is one bad atv !!!

Actually the Rincon does have engine braking. Problem is its *** backwards. The engine braking only works when the atv is going ABOVE 3mph!? When you drop below that it freewheels. Im an 100% positive on this because my brother in law has one and I rode it for awhile last month. That alone would keep me from buying one.
Also riding one day,the Rincon was in front, my wife on her 650 was next and I was last going down this kinda steep rocky hill. As you know both have working brake lights, I could see the Rincons staying on constantly, the 650 rarely ever came on and she was in 2wd high.
The Rincon does have an excellent ride. I never got to test top speed but my brother in law said he got it up to 62mph and that was totally stock. The weekend of 11th to 13th Im going back in for another ride. I will take my GPS and both sets of tires I have and check the speed. I will find out exactly just how fast both atvs are. I wish he had an air compressor big enough to run my impact wrench. If he did I would take the red primary spring and see if it had any affect on top speed. I know it does on bottem end.
One more thing about the Rincon. Just because it only has one forward gear dont think it doesnt have any low end. I was able to sit back on the seat and blip the throttle and it wheelied pretty easy. Really suprised me.

My dad had the first Polaris dealership in the south in 85, we did a ton of development work on Polaris quads, we has a test track and did tire testing for them. NO the Polaris did not had any engine braking what so ever. they used a loose belt system in the PVT when you let off the throttle the belt went loose, if you keept a little throttle you could get some braking at the cost of belt life. So it is obvious you did not ride to many ATV's in your life, I think engine braking is a good thing but not 100% needed, the Rincon system provides braking at all speeds the problem is the geering is so high that you do not feel it, leave your quad in 5th grear and let off you will feel excatly what the rincon feels like. I would say if you are in steep hills then you would like engine braking so you would not have to use your brakes as much but you could get by. Also the Polaris in it's current config offers no engine braking what so ever to the front tires but no one is complaining.
If the Rincon is not for you do not buy it but don't try and make yourself feel better buy bashing a quad you know nothing about.
If the last statment does not apply please disregard there are people here giving good honest info and feel the information they offer will help, to you I say thanks.

with that lame ol pushrod engine it has a lagg time between bliping the throttle and exceleration..Ivre owned hondas and if youve ever rode one youll know what I mean when i say the motor always goes back down to its idle point when the throttle is released..the 450es was the same way..the revs fall into the basement when you shift and the rincon is just like it..yes its quick..kawi quick its not..nor does it have the tire spining torque...dual overhead cam 4 valves allow the Twin to rev much faster.

daimon..Im not sure to whom youve directed your last statement to but I assure you if it was myself then I must protest..at anyrate all of the atvs i have rode and owened all well as the numerous dirtbikes all gave somekind of positive feed back when the throttle was released..and we are not talking "engine brake" I talking somekind of gearing or backpressure or whatever that lets you know that you are off the throttle and your momentum is decreasing..the rincon had none of this..it acts the same as your auto car or truck..let your foot off the gas and it will continue on its merry way at nearly the same speed. and let me reiterate that i am not Bashing the rincon..just its tranny...

You offer up some good points.... However I don't think it is wise to start drawing comparisons between Honda and Polaris.... you do more harm to honda that way.
It also appears your type of riding may be different than some of ours... maybe its not so critical to have engine braking in the mud bogs of louisianna but where I ride it is extremely critical..... Long steep descents that you don't need your *** end swinging past your handle bars. If you'd like I 'll take you on a few of these trails and we'll see if you change your mind...
I think it is asanine not have engine braking on a utility quad.
