I have a 96 mojave and want to lower the gear ratio to climb better. It is 12/43 now. What size do I need with a 13 front sprocket and stock chain. I have a new chain that I'm ready to put on with the new gears.

Thanks
Chad

If you put on a 13, you will be going backwards from what you want.
A 13 will raise your gearing not lower it. You would need a 46 rear with it just to get back to stock. If you want to lower the gear you have to go smaller on the front and/or bigger on the rear. Try an 11 on the front with a stock rear. That will take you from a 3.58 to a 3.90 and it will climb easier but wind out pretty quick.

If I put an 11 on the front and leave the back stock will the stock 520 chain be too long? Top speed I'm not worried about. Where I ride 40mph is fast enough for me.

Thanks for you help

It should do ok if you have plenty of adjustment left now. If not, it is really not that hard to take a link out. I have never ran an 11 tooth. They can sometimes cause problems because the chain has to make such a tight bend. keep an eye on things and check your chain adjustment often.
