towing

Hey Tommyboy:
I believe the 700 is rated higher because it is about 150 lbs heavier then the P650. A heavier machine can tow more weight safely then a lighter machine with equivalent torque.
However, I just returned from a moose hunting trip with my p650 and it performed like a champ. We had shot a huge bull moose and field dressed it. We then winched it onto a small trailer. Its approx. weight we have guestimated at 1400 to 1500lbs on the trailer. The initial startup caused the prairie to squat but then it just pulled it like it wasnt even there. I could hardly notice that I was towing anything. Incredible power and torque and it definitely exceeded the 1250 recommeded max towing weight.
Except for the stock tires and I am thoroughly impressed with the P650.

IF you want proof of how good a p650 will pull, come to Maine and watch the ATV pulls. It is pulling against all other makes and models in its class, pulling against other stock bikes, the p650 will kick butt.
Every model bike has something about it that makes it good, the Polaris might be the ride. One of the p650's is pulling mostly because of the power and diff. lock.
We have a pic of one of the bikes we pull with on NYCO's site and a pic's of HEARTBREAKER, one of the weight transfer sleds we pull on, #48 AND #49.
Not saying we won't be, but so far we haven't been beat by a 700 polaris and we've pulled against several, not even close.
I'm not running the Polaris down, I haven't ridden a 700, its probable a great bike, but pulling stock for stock, when both bikes weight the same, it's kawa, by a lot.
02 p650, diamond g, k&n, dyno jet, digitron tack, dial a jets, with nitrous boost, rb weight trans hitch, rb wheels 13" wide, pitbull ll tires, 12" all around, thunder adjustable clutch weights.
second place is for the best of all the losers.

tommy, I read somewhere that the 650 has more torque. It is an 8 valve 633, whereas the 700 is a 4 valve 683(?). The 700 has 3 more horsepower, but I think they had to compromise the torque to get that much horsepower out of a 2 valve pwer cylinder engine. They cammed it for horsepower, but it simply looses out on torque at lower RPMS.
That's one reason why we all love 650's, because they yank so hard.
Also, all of our 8 valve 650s will have a whole lot more horsepower than the 700 soon after we get the horsepower limiter removed with an aftermarket CDI.
Towing? No, the 700 has a much lower low range. That's why the towing is higher on the polaris. It can't go very fast in low, but it can pull hard.
Sometimes a truck's towing is limited by the brakes, drivetrain, suspension, cooling or frame. The weakest link on an ATV is the belt, brakes, or cooling (not frame, not vehicle weight), I would guess that the gearing limits it. You could gear the 650 down so far that it could two a lot more, the radiator would handle it if the gearing was that much lower.

TOMMYBOY84:
ATV magazine did a shootout with all the big bores. The Bombardier Quest had the longest pull(It was also the heaviest quad) It also had the best average. The KawiP650 had the second longest pull with156.6 ft. The Pol700 had a pull of 156 ft. Polaris 700 had a better average though. The Pol700 has MUCH better traction due to MUCH better tires and MUCH heavier weight. Put better tires on the Kawi and then try. The Kawi put's more power to the ground than ANY other 4x4 quad EVER made. Just give it traction and you have a towing monster. The Kawi P650 will do everything well...most things it does exceptionally well. And man I have to tell you it is an absolute honour owning this awsome rig. It is an amazing machine...with top notch features...I really do not see anything else that appeals to me. This is the most fun a 4x4 Quad currently has to offer. GO BUY ONE...I BET YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
