iszdan, we where hunting the stanley area, our camp was at 7600 feet and with a digital thermometer that has been very accurate that was the reading we had at 6 a.m.
Last week while deer hunting the elk where in the rut and bugling strong, this weekend they had stopped. I did not hear a single shot and I saw plenty of hunters. Oh well, there is always next weekend.
albaBANSHE, the quads had been started and ran 12 hours before.

This is what I do when my 650 has been sitting a while and I know it may be hard to start/warmup. I turn the key on and also make sure the red kill switch is on. You will here a whine which is the fuel pump pressuring the system. I wait till it stops and then turn the key off and then on again. The fuel pump will run again. I do this sequence several times and it seems to make warmup shorter and starting easier.

Chucky,
Packardbell is correct. Running premium fuel in the Prairie is a waste of money and it will make it harder to start in cold weather.
Re-read your owners manual page 47. Antiknock minimum requirement is 87. RON(research octane number) minmum requirement is 91. All octane ratings posted on gas pumps are an average of research octane and Motor octane. Any fuel that has an octane rating of 87 posted on the pump will meet the RON requirement of 91 for the Prairie. It is a widely held belief that higher octane fuel burns faster and makes more horsepower than low octane fuel when in fact it is exactly opposite. High octane fuel burns slower and will make less horsepower than premium.
With 9:1 compression the Prairie doesn't need the slower burning fuel.
Do a web search for octane ratings and you will find more info than you ever wanted to know about the when, where and why of octane ratings.
Ya'll really had me going for a minute about the primer. I was wondering how in the heck I could have missed that! Turns out only Canadian models were equipped with a primer.
