Prarie 650 Squeal - Front End
#1
I have a Prarie 650 that has about 100 hrs. It just recently developed an intermittent short squeal eminating from the front end. IT sounds like it is directly coming from just behind the steering column. I removed the drive belt housing and it was bone dry. I tested the belt by applying brakes when throttling up and it does spin slowly around the shafts. Is this normal and could this be causing the noise? It doesn't seem to be badly worn but I didn'tthink it should spin with brakes applied. The sound happens when first throttling up - forward or reverse and is intermittent. THe breather housing is housed directly above the belt housing and comes up through the plastic cowling and I was wondering if this was where I was hearing the noise. Also, my shifter sometimes is hard to pop-into gear. This is also intermittent. Any advice grealy appreciated before I take it to the local experts.

Weekend Warrior: I have the same problem I get a squeal when I start off
just for a sec or two when I put it in foward or reverse. I have the 2003 360 prairie. If you find out how to correct this problem let me know. I still have 3 months warranty on the bike yet maybe warranty will cover it

newfieboy-- YOUR problem is most likely belt squeal. My P-650 does this, I adjust the belt, and it goes away. It is a little loose.

newfieboy>>> Two choices. If it's under warranty take it to dealer and get a new belt. Or- go to NYROC's Web Page and under techical help section you will find belt replacement information.

Thanks urals47 and pro rider for the response. My bike has 3 months warranty on it yet so if it is the belt it is covered under warranty. The reason I ask cause I have to bring it 4 hours from here but if not I will try and fix it myself with some instructions from this forum.

newfie58-- I'd call or radio ahead to make certain that the dealer will cover the job under warranty, and that they have the parts to do the belt replacement and/or adjustment! 8 hours driving, only to find NO parts would ruin MY day!
