P650 engine brake noise
#1
has anyone else had problems with the engine brake on their p650 It still holds back good and works fine but it just makes all kind of weird noises!! For example when going slow it sounds like it is whirling and almost like a high pitched squeal it is hard to describe the sound but I know 110% that it is not the belt squeal i know what that sounds like any feedback would be helpful

If that noise that you refer too has a grinding noise to it, it is probably caused by a very minor shift linkage adjustment. (It is trying to slip out of gear and will only do it in low range.)
Good Luck

You reckon it could be that the nylon pads on the fork have worn down to metal. Mine are worn down below the book tolerance and I don't like the cost of replacing them. I am going to take the fork off and see how I like the 650 with out EBC.

The engine brake works just like a polaris engine brake w/o the KEBC. It will brake down to where the engine idles, then it will let go and free wheel. Blipping the gas will make it regrab.
Some of us talked about just unplugging the hot wire to the KEBC motor. Might work, don't know for sure.
The KEBC module controls 4x4 actuation so you can't take the fuse out.

Partsman,
I wish I could tell you more based on first hand experience, but I haven't needed to make the adjustment on my quad. I think I read about the fix on this forum, or maybe on NYROC's web site. It's supposed to be real easy to do. You know if you have over adjusted it the other way because it will slip out of gear in reverse. Just a couple of turns on the adjustment nut is supposadly all it takes. Our buddy, JK, was having this exact problem a couple of weeks ago. I took a ride and correctly diagnosed the problem. He had "the guys" make the adjustment the next day and it took care of it. (Joe thought I was a genius!) I said, "Oh, it's nothing."

I made the adjustment to the shifter linkage and it fixed the problem. Thanks to PrairiePuppy who stole all his information from Nyroc, and Nyroc's most very informative website, I saved a dreaded trip to the dealer. Whole process took 20 minutes from start to finish including the brief test ride. This is a very close adjustment because if you go a 1/2 a turn too far then it will grind in reverse. If your 650 is making a grinding/ratcheting noise when decelerating in low gear it probably is the shifter linkage out of adjustment. Nyroc has a pretty thorough explanation and cure for the problem on his website.
