'02 Prairie 650 vs '03 Prairie 650
I am trying to ascertain the physical differences and price difference between the '02 and '03 models. The reason I want to know is because my dealer quoted me a price for an '03 model, but when I actually picked it up and signed all the papers, he never told me that it was really an '02 model. Of course, I was so giddy with getting a new one that I didn't notice that he had pulled the old bait and switch routine on me. I have talked to them and naturally, they claim they didn't know about the switch, but are willing to make some amends (will give me a hitch).
So, what is the MSRP for an '02 Prairie 650? I know the MSRP for an '03 is $6999.00.
What are the physical differences? I do know that the '03 comes with a hitch, a redesigned air filter assembly and a reprogrammed KEBC.
Are these differences enough for me to force him to take back the '02 model (28 miles, belt doesn't squeal and runs like a scalded ape) and give me the '03 model I was promised?
Thanks!!

In "02" that was a good deal. in "03" for a left over might not be such a great deal. I would go back and complain. See if they will do your first service free and through in some accessories. They polled a fast one. The same thing ALMOST happen to me. I got a price on a new 650, drove 120 miles to pick it up. When I got there noticed first thing, no trailer hitch! Forgot to ask if it was a 03. I wanted a 03 for sure. Even though the list price did not go up, the dealer said his cost did, so if I wanted a 03 it would be about $60-$70?? (don't remember exact). So I went a head and waited. I had him order wheels and tires at that time so they would be on the machine when I picked it up. $6300.00 is a GREAT out the door price, did you have to pay sales tax? I think if you were quoted $6300.00 OTD for a 03. Then that is what you should have gotten. What does all the paperwork say? 02 or 03? What color did you get?

Yes the MSRP is the same for both years, the dealer cost did go up (according to my dealer). I went with the KENDA BEAR CLAWS 26x12:00 x 12 Rear 26X 9:00x 12 Front. I went ahead and bought ITP series C wheels. The combo cost me $550.00 I like them a lot. If you wanted to save money mount them on the stock wheels. Send me your e-mail address I've got a picture of them on the machine

They also changed the colors on the racks and the plastic. The '03 red is that aztec red and the racks, wheels & floor boards are painted gold. I thought the '02's looked a little better with the silver. Doesn't matter too much since it's an awesome machine. I think your dealer really owes you something for that fast one!

RTY, there is another difference that makes the 03 a little better. The 03 has a belt indicator light. It also has a new V-Twin sticker, but I think the 02 sticker looks a little better. I wouldn't say that the dealer was trying to do a switch on you. It could be an honest mistake. I meant to get an 02 model to save a couple of hundred bucks and I accidently got an 03. I ended up paying $49.95 for a trailer hitch that I didn't need, but netted a savings of $250.00. The dealer told me about their mistake after they got it all serviced and the new tires put on. As far as riding it, I really can't tell a difference in them.
