Seat Clamps on P650 problem
Hello,
Enjoying my 03 650 very much for work and play. Almost finished with the 10 hr. breakin period, just in time before my youngest son returns from college for Thanksgiving.
Occasionally after riding on the trails and not too hard, I find the seat has worked lose from the hooks that fasten it down. This has happend a number of times, even after I was convinced each time that the seat would stay in place.
Any suggestions or info?
Thanks and happy riding . . . John from Rhode Island [(8^{}

Seat Clamps on P650 problem
I noticed that same problem the day after I bought my '03. I took it in and told them that I had a faulty seat and they were about to order me a knew one when the boss came out and told me that the p650 seat was the biggest pain in the butt to put in correctly. He pulled back the center flange a little and (with some muscle) wiggled it in properly. Every time I take off my seat, I have to mess with it, but that took care of the problem. I havn't gotten around to it but he said a heat gun would take care of the problem real quick. The flange just isn't bent out enuff so it ends up sitting on top of the bracket instead of going into it like it should.
Don't bother getting a new seat, they are all like this from what I have been told.

Here's the trick!!
Work the front two "hooks" (on the underside of the seat) into thier respective slots. You can do this by looking as you guide the two prongs into the slots. After this is done, at the back of the seat, use your fist to WHAP that seat straight down. You will hear it click.
I kept trying to slide the whole thing into place by sliding it all forward. It does not work that way. The two front "guides" are just that. Once they are in place, smack the back of that seat into place.
You will then say "wow, shoulda known about this long ago". I darn near slid off mine a few times too!!

it is the wide hook in the middle of the seat that is not being fastened allowing the seat to move around. Bend the hook a little as you have flattened it from riding on it almost certainly by now and just ensure you get it aligned like he said you can guide it in as you put the seat on then smack the rear of the seat once aligned into the latches....
