i have a 99 300 4x4 praire and i just installed a 55 watt reverse light . it only works when you shift into reverse at night(with the headlights on). it works great and you can see really well behind you at night. if anyone wants the info on how to do it just let me know by replying to this .

ok here goes...
1...tapp into your power wire for your brake light(+12v). this is going to be power for your reverse light as well. doing this enables the reverse light to only work when the headlights are on(nighttime)
2...on the left side of the bike there are two sensor switches on the block. on my bike it is behind the plastic plate that covers the oil filter. one has a "N" and the other has a "R" on it. the "R" is the reverse light indicator switch. it is norminly open but when you go into reverse it closes the circuit witch gives you a ground. this is what is going to turn on your light. you need to run your ground wire from the light to this . there is one more thing. you need to go to radio shack and purchase a $.99 12v diode. the light bulb gives feed back to the switch without it and causes your indicator light to stay on all the time. if they do not have a 12v diode get a 50v or 120v. it will not hurt a thing and will still do its job.
i purchased from wal-mart an oval "extreme" fog light. it is holding up very well but there are vents in the back housing of the light that you will need to seal up with a little silicon. they are for releasing heat and since you are not riding in reverse all night long the light never gets really hot enough for that.
i really enjoy mine and hope this helps you out.
i mounted mine above my trunk and it fits like a glove. i think the 400 is the same size.
happy riding and let me kno9w how it comes out

I installed a backup light on my King Quad, I wired it up to come on any time I put it into reverse, although the atv must be on to do so. (did not want the kids playing and draining the battery, same with the brake light I installed)
If you would like a copy of the schematic for it, email me (ecbaatz@snet.net) Have pictures as well.
