Default 26" or 27" Mud Lites?

I am ready to order tires, so I need opinions fast. I am going to order a set of Mud Lites for my P650, but I am torn between 26" or 27" tires. So far everywhere I have ridden, ground clearance has not been a problem with the stock dunflops and my goal is to maintain the sportiness of the p650, yet I want an aggressive mud-n-crud tire. So I am heavly leaning toward the 26".

My question is that is there a noticable powerloss difference between the typically 26" and 27" with mud tires? Any of you with 27" tires wish you would have bought 26" or vice-versa?

I went from the stock Dunlops to 27 inch titan 589s whitch Im sure are quite a bit heavyer that the mudlites and i didnt notice a bit of power loss, and the handling is probably better.

I say go with the 27s.

If clearance hasn't been a problem in the past, don't think twice! Get the 26's.

I put 26" 589 M/S tires on mine. Remember, the bike is set up to handle 25" tires. Go larger and heavier, and you will essentially be changing the set-up. Added weight and added size changes the strain on the engine and the ever talked about belt.

I have yet to find a mud hole mine won't go through with the 26" tires. I have high-centred a few times, but with 27" tires, I would have still high-centered. These tires are like steamboat paddles....!!

Bigger isn't always better......it might look cool.....but is it really better?

Click on the "My Pics" link in my signature if you want to see pictures of what this machine looks like wtih big tires!!!

Lastly, don't forget...you can go W I D E R if you like....

Dextreme, I just got my 27" Mud Lites on c series wheels about two weeks ago. I really like them. I only got to ride in the snow one time with them and they did real well. I would say if you wanna stay sporty go 26, if you just want that big ole tire, go with 27. They are on the light side compared to other tires. I kinda wish I would have went with the 26 only because I like to jump the P650 quite a bit and now I dont think I will be able to quite as much. Im sure since I rode them one time I cant send them back for a smaller size. Check my sig to see the pics of them, they really do look good.

I allso just got mine and am still playing with air pressure . But I dont think I will have any need for taller tires . Man what a differance thay make. I will probabley switch to 25in ATR,s for the summer and run the 26in Mud Lites for the wet and snow.

Chaos, I was thinking of doing the same thing. I really like being able to jump and it a little tougher with the 27's. The holeshots are so expensive though.

Is it the size or the tread of the mudlites that's taking away performance? Is there a compromise tire thats available in 26 with good M/S traction and decent sportyness on regular hardpack roads/trails?

Lightman, to be fair to the Mud Lites, I have not had a chance to ride the on the trails on a good dry day. The first time was in 6-7 inches of heavy snow and the other time was in the mud. I was only basing what I said on how big they were. A 27" tire is pretty tall and there dosent look like a whole lot of room for downward suspension travel for my fat a$$ when I come down. Normally it wouldnt be a problem but I occasionally take it to a MX track and jump it pretty hard. Again, it might be a problem, I was just looking at it the other day and thought it might be.

Lightman, you may want to check out the 26" Kenda Bearclaws. Good all-around tire and reasonably priced. I've also heard that Spidertracks and Goodyear Tracker Ps are good all-around tires. The Tracker Ps come standard on some Polaris models (if you want to see them on a machine).
