Default Rear Brakes - P650 - When to Service?

How do you know when it is time to replace your pads on your rear brakes? Mine will no longer lock up. They will stop effectively....they just won't lock up the rear tires anymore. HOWEVER....I am running the 589 M/S' vs. the slick Dunflops....so is it that my tires are gripping that much better and not braking as well? I hear no squealing, etc.

Thanks!

It's a wet brake system....no pads to replace in the rear! There are front pads since they are conventional disc brakes.

You probley just need to adjust them.
There are 2 wing nuts on the top of your rear axle housing. One is for the foot brake and one is for the hand. Just give them a couple of turns and see how it does.
Your owners manuel gives you all the details.

BE CAREFUL--- it is easy to adjust them TOO TIGHT. I did this, and mine started dragging after riding a tight woods section for 3 miles, or so. Thought I did it "by the book", but gott'em too tight.
Service manual says they should be replaced every 7K miles!!!!!! Don't think I'll worry about it as long as I own the bike! You are probably right, all that weight(589's), you won't lock'em up.

When mine start to fade I simply change the differential fliud and it seems to bring them back to life.
