Stiffer fron shocks for Prairie 650
#1
Read somewhere you can get stiffer shocks that eliminates the little extra push the stock ones have in whoops and certain rough rec riding. Anyone know ...
- Where to get
- How Much
- How good a product...basically how much of a difference from the stock ones.
any insight would be appreciated

Progressive Suspension makes springs for the front that are supposed to provide better rebound off of jumps w/ less bottoming. They are $170 for the pair. Supposed to be a good investment. I haven't bottomed mine yet so Im not too concerned. PS makes good products, I have their springs and shocks on my street bike. Quality stuff.
I haven't seen anyone who makes a rear spring/shock set up yet. But the rear end on the new 700 looks awful familiar, and I know people have already made a set up for it. Maybe someone will try to put one on the Prairie.

I have bottomed out the front of my 650 LOTS of times, so I made a spacer that fits between the spring and the spring mount on the shock to give it more preload. Works good now. I've only bottomed it out once with the new setup. Hit an extreme water bar on a fire road doing about 65 kmh. Damn near kicked me right off my machine!! Thought "I must have busted something", but checked everything out and it was A-OK.
I've never had any problem with the rear setup. It seems to work real well. In the future, I plan on putting on the Progressives in the front, but by the time we get stuff up here to Canada, the cost is doubled.

I have the Progressive springs on mine. It gives you a stiffer spring as well as adding an adjustment capability allowing you to change the front suspension for different conditions. I had bottomed out a few times with the stock springs in some real hard hits but not any more. I can just hammer right through those big dips and bumps with these things. The biggest benefit is by adding the stiffer front springs it helps to keep the rear wheels on the ground in hard cornering. This is definitely a good investment!

I agree with partsman2. I put the springs on mine. They work great. I don't think I paid 170 for them. It was somewhere around 130. The install wasn't bad with right tools and two buddies to help get the clips bak on.
