Hello Everyone,

NyRoc, your site is very informative, thank you for the information.

I have a question with the installation. Where is the spring located? Is it located behind the pulley? I hope this isn't a stupid question, I havent pulled off the CVT cover yet.

Also, my machine only has 2 hours on it, would it be necessary to adjust the belt deflection?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it is behind the driven (rear pulley).

If you adjust it tight and add the black spring, the belt will last longest. It may squeal in neutral, but ignore it, since it works better tight than loose.

Hi NyRoc,

I purchased the necessary parts to build the compression tool, 1/2 threaded rod, 2 washers, 2" steel pipe cap and 2 1/2 nuts and circlip pliers. I already drilled the 1/2 hole through the 2" steel cap, all I have to do is cut the "pie" in the cap for access to the circlip

Here are my questions:

1) Does it matter how wide the washers are?
2) Which order should the washers, nuts and cap go on the steel rod?
3) Just a confirmation, will I need the 27mm socket and 1/2 ratchet?

Actually, one of the washers is probably not absolutely essential (between nut and cap, but the other one needs to be big enough to cover the hole in the pulley so the nut wont slip through or scar the pulley. I think most 5/8 washers are big enough. It has been so long since I saw it that I don't know if all 1/2" ones are big enough.

Yes, you need the 1/2" drive 27mm socket.

Once you see how simple these things are you are going to laugh so hard you will pass out. Make sure there is something soft in the garage for you to land on when this occurs.

All you do with this compressor thing is squeeze the spring retainer 1/4" or so until you can get the circlip off. After that you relax the compressor (that is why it needs to be 12" long threaded rod). Do whatever it is you are gonna do, then use that compressor to squeeze it back together. Put the clip on. Put pulley back, belt on, cover on. Then you are done and can go riding.

I used a 3/4'' drive with a 1 1/16'' socket and something else that is very nice to have is a 3/8 air ratchet to take the 10mm bolts out of the cover and other things. I got one for Christmas and didn't know what I have been missing, that air ratchet works great, just be sure to be careful when putting small bolts back in with it or it will break them.

NyRoc,

Just to let you know, I installed the black spring last night and it went smoothly. It was very easy, especially with your directions. I made the compression tool and that worked wonderful.

To be honest with you, I'm still breaking my machine in so I still have to go easy on it. I'm sure it will have more power, which I like [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] and what really attracks me to this upgrade is longer belt life.
