400 belt question.
#1
Ive had my quad for right at a year now, only 400 miles on it, (thanks to Air Force) mostly trail, some of it towing my friends broken machines :-) I dont really abuse it, use low gear whenever im going slow and dont have any belt issues like squeeking or noises. My question is when do I need to get concerned about whats under that belt cover? Adjustments? checks? While mechanicly inclined I would probably take it in to have any belt work done, but was curious about when. Thanks for any inputs.

With 400 miles on your 400 prairie it wouldn't be a bad idea to adjust your belt deflection. The 400s don't squeek nearly as easily as the 650s and 360s. Wish they had the same belt as the 400. However the more often you adjust your belt to keep it as tight as posiblle the longer it will last, a properly maintained 400 belt can last up to 8000km or close to 5000mi. The process is a little difficult the first time but not that bad for anyone with a few tools.
