Help with jetting
#11
I am using kawi jets now and have been trying to compare them against the dynojet jets and I can't tell the difference(once I have them jetted equivalintly.
The dynojet jets might be a touch leaner at full throttle (when using the equivalent sizes for midband), so I think I got atouch faster at full speed with them. I could be wrong.
Anybody have a reason to use the kawi jets over the dynojet ones let me know.

Now that the weather is cold, I am getting the backfire through the carb's again, I think it's only the rear cylinder, I'm going to the dealer and getting one size bigger pilot jet's to see if the cough will go away again, if not I will leave the front needle on the fourth notch and move the rear needle to the 5th and see how it does, I don't want to turn my air screw's out any farther, thus the bigger pilot's, I'm running DJ 134 main front 138 rear, and the cough is back at about 1/8 throttle even when warmed up now, I keep everyone posted, I think the temp is mostly it, along with the packing may be starting to burn out of the muffler a little, making it lean out.....

There is a little hose from the middle of the carbs that comes up to the air box if it is blocked off or not allowing for free flow of air one or both of the carbs will hickup shooting fuel straight up through the carbs. There has to be a free flow of presure between the carbs if not what you describe will happen good luck maybe something else but check this first.

You are right with the DJ jets you will get a little more top end speed but only slightly maybe around 2-3 mph more not really significant. A race is won and lost in the first 30 feet then it is all catch up with the cdi cashing out at 5500 rpm is it worth it to have a little on the top end or better to have the punch on the bottom and mid range. Wtih my dyno results I get better bang for my buck with the Keihn jets. With the original Kiehns and the largest DJ's our quads totally modded the same you with the DJ's and me with the Kiehns I'll leave you behind. It will take you a quarter mile for to catch up to me with that 2-3 mph difference guaranteed. In the bush all you will see is my dust.
Kissofdeath
You are on the right track with a slight flaw. The jet from Keihn will work with the needle from DJ to a point but it interferes whith the harmonics from just above idle to just before midrange creating a slight lag or a minor dead spot. This is what I have done I have taken a Keihn needle changed the angle of the initial point of the needle and the thickness of the needle to that of the DJ needle just passed the mid point. What this does is gives me a strong punch from the start good mid point with a strong finish, best of both worlds. You have the right idea take it a little farther.
