Default 80 over piston for a lakota

would a high compression, like 11:1, 80 over piston boost the power on my lakota very much? also my service manual says that anything bigger than 40 over you need to resleeve it does this mean i need an 80 over sleeve to or what?

I'm not sure what 80 over will take the displacement to, but it you get the FST330 kit (actual displacement 322) with high compressoin piston, you'll double the HP increases from all your previous mods. Bottom end torque is greatly improved. I needed to put stiffer clutch springs in to handle the power. I went with the 10:1 compression because I was concerned with overheating. If I went with 11:1, I'd add an oil cooler. Micky at FST also sells the oil cooler kit. I highly recommend the FST330 kit.

does the 330 kit sacrifice any reliability?

As far as reliabillity, I ran I believe 9 months, 14 or so races and I have no idea how many practice sessions, lets just say at the very least a years worth of heavy abuse to the motor, with all kinds of over heating and other insidents that happens due to racing, nothing I can blame on the kit. I tore the motor down to answer that question my self, it was still perfect. I re-rung the piston while I had it down but it was perfect. I see no problem with this kit.

Thier isn't any high compression stock pistons out there. Mickey at FST can make you High comp stock pistons, I believe $165.

We also did a 97 model with stock piston but shaved the head, decked the cylinder, and put a thinner base gasket in. We had no timing chain issues and got the compression up to about 11.5:1. It ran graet but nothing like the 330 kit.

I've been running the kit for a year (trail riding) with no problem what so ever. Gaff has been racing is aparently with no problems. As far as effecting reliability, any time the power is increased, the engine and drive train stresses increase proportionally, that has to effect reliability. Reliability is also effected by increased heat, which is typically a result of added power. The Kota engine seems pretty robust, so aside from the secondary clutch, it handles the loads well. One other change I made after the 330 kit was to switch to 20w-50 synthetic motor oil for extra protection.
