Default look at this rear diff fluid

my dealer gave me this wierd oil for the rear diff. it is a 80w-90 and it says Kawachem Gear Oil w/ limited slip additive. then it says it has no vehicle model restrictions on their site. i entered this number K61030-001A at there buykawasaki site. i couldnt get the link to show on this post. i then looked at it today and it was yellowishy with bubbles in it.

packardbell, read your owners manual. That should have been your first step. It will tell you exactly what fluids are recommended...

I would not use anything that isn't expressly permitted in your owner's manual. I wouldn't take the dealers word for it that you can substitute a different grade than what is listed/advised/required in the owner's manual. If you do, it might come back to bite you in the future, better safe than sorry. That's why I make sure I only use oil that meets the owner's manual requirements.

If you put that 80w90 stuff in the rear end, get it out!! Mobil 424 or the Kawachem equivilent is all you can use. 424 is a thin hydralic fluid. The original micro-fische for the 650 showed the wrong item and PN for the rear end fluid. The front diff takes motor oil. And yes, the owners manual shows the correct info. Your dealer is a dope of the highest magnatude.

Packard, the rear diff fluid from Kawasaki should be called Kawasaki TDH. Basically, it is a tractor fluid. Get that other stuff out of there and only put in what the manual tells you to. In the front diff, stick with the same oil you are using in your motor. You can use a synthetic or synthetic-blend in your front diff as well, as they work pretty well with the front diff locker setup.

That sounds like front diff fluid.

The rear end fluid you MUST use in the rear diff, says Kawachem gear AND wet brake fluid on the bottle, if it doesn't say wet brake on it somewhere get it out, or find some hydraulic fluid for wet brake systems.....

That's what Kawasaki TDH is. It says right on the bottle "Kawasaki TDH fluid is a multipurpose, extreme pressure, wet-brake/tractor transmission hydraulic fluid." This stuff is made in Canada, so they probably don't have it down in the States.
