Air Filter Question

Mastrblastr:
You stated that unifilter made a filter for the 650. Is this for the 2002 or the 2003 models or bolth? Reason why i ask is cuz when i first started looking for a new filter i wanted to go with uni but newgate honda parts dept. said they didn't make them. Was i just mislead again from the wonderful, informative, smart, all knowing newgate honda?? Or do they really make a filter for the 2003 models???
Trailburner:
I am sure glad that someone out there got a good deal from those guys, they sure tried to stiff me in the behind. N E way how do you like your bear claws?? And where do you go rideing? I live out here in roy, maybe we could go rideing some time with some of the other people from around this area... what do ya think?
Prarietwin:
Would you take a K&N over a twin air? If so why? I was told that they bolth increase air flow which gives you more power, but the k&n is higher maintance vs. a foam filter.
True they bolth take oil but the dirt can get through the k&n easier right??

ive run a k&n on my ds650 w/out the airbox lid for 2 years as of november and my bike runs as goods today as it did new.but,i also run klotz 100% synthetic 10-40 oil in the engine and get this,it only recommends you change the oil once a year or every 4000 miles.now im going to start using it in my p650.its pricy at $8.50 a quart if you change it twice a year its only about $50 plus filters.like i said,my DS is over 2 years old and on its 3rd oil change and it runs great.granted its due for an oil change now but,im a believer in it.i run synthetic oil and high octane gas in everything ive got and knock on wood ive had great luck so far.but ill probably run the twin air foam for the simple fact of the mud and water.thanks.

K&N filters are a gauze filter and the stock filter and the Uni filiter are foam. The gauze filter oil for the K&N is too thin and not tacky enough to use in the foam filter. The foam filter needs a tacky (stringy) oil. The maintenance seems to be the same between the 2 types of filters as far as I'm concerned. I run the K&N during the low dust months and the Uni when in extreme dust conditions. Everyone has their own opinion on this one for sure.

foam air filters can be cleaned with parts cleaner from any parts store, and does not damage the filter!!! I've raced motocross for 7 years and never damaged a filter. Also they were cleaned at least 8 to 10 times a week. Gasoline will ruin a foam filter by drying it out and eventually crumble.
