Default Bayou 300 2X4 shift problems

My Bayou sometimes will not shift up or down through the gears.
It always happens when the engine is working hard, never at low revs.
I have to trottle right back and then shift.
I followed the procedure for adjusting the clutch and it made an enormous difference, particulary when changing up gears, but it is still not right.
I feel the clutch is not dis-engaging properly when the engine is above about 1/3 of the rev range.
Is there any possibility there might be gearbox damage or might it be clutch related?
It does not slip out of gear or display any other gearbox problems that I am aware of.

Thanks in advance for any help offered...

Dont know what causes it, but my father in laws honda 200 Fourtrax does the exact same thing, picky shifter, its worse when your goin through the water and need to shift, gotta plunge your foot into the deep and mess with it. sometimes it feels like its stuck between gears. Love my automatic for that reason. Hope to fix the 200 this summer.
