At CA. Imperial Sand Dunes National Rec. Area (Glamis) I rode my 650p and we took 2@ 400 Scramblers with paddles and one 440 Explorer with paddles, I could out run all of these quads.
In OK. at Little Sahara Dunes my neighbor brought 3 250R's, one stock 4-wheeler, one stock 3-wheeler, and one built 293cc with the works. Out ran all of them and they had paddles. I run 4-wheel drive with yellow lever pulled all the way in, and run stock tires.

I have raced a few raptors in the sand with my p650...and I all I can say is that I people aren't lying here. I don't think I have a chance now that I added 27" tires, but with the 25"s a few sport bikes got spanked!!!

prairievenom,

Do you hold your diff. lever in while riding on the sand? I am going in a week to the dunes and I am a little worried that the diff. will take too much of a beating if I hold it in all day. What do you guys think?

Nyroc.....?
Alltoys....?
Anyone...?

any help would be appreciated.

no i dont hold my diff lever.
but i just found out that if you dont hold it you only have 3 whieel drive. So the next time i go to pismo i will pull the yellow lever if its not to crazy. The prairie is like a cadillac on sand with a 602 V8.

Prairievenom,
I'm thinking about getting rear 25" paddle masters and putting them on my Outlander 400 4x4 to see how it performs in the sand. I want to check out 2wd sand performance before forking out the cash for all the way around.

Have you tried rear only?

Thanks in advance.

endoman . ALL i have tried out is two rear paddles( saving money for the V).
heres the diffrence. if your going obove 15mph and gun it with the paddles in 2wheel drive it will have the same acceleration as if you were in 4wd with stock tires, and that allows me to save fuell and have lighter sterring. If you have it in 4wd and gun it its like your on pavment it hooks up really good. In fact if i go down buy the wet sand and put it in low gear i can do a wheelie.
hope this helps.

It's really kinda sad that yamaha has to redesign there 660 raptor cuz a 600 lb. bike is keeping up with them. But i've heard the raptor is gonna be a 700 next year and it's supposed to be totally redone.

Just for all you people that don't think a prairie can hang with a raptor... consider this my buddie hit 71 mph on his shee (piped, ported, cool heads, k&n filter, reeds, etc.) i went on the same track and hit 69 mph. And yes it was on a down hill not on a straight run, and yes that was on a gps.

True the prairie is a 600 lb monster, but lb for lb it's one of the badest machines out there ya gotta admit!!!
