Kawasaki tecates
#2
Well, you're talking to a seasoned veteran when it comes to Kawasaki's. I've owned Kawasaki's for nearly 10 years now, from a 110 Mojave, to a 250 Mojave, to the 250 Teacate-4.
I have an 87 Tecate-4 that screams! Currently it's geared far too tall (for speed) and will not wind out 6th gear all the way and yet it'll waste my friends 250r three wheeler until I reach my last two gears (dead stop or a roll)!
If I were to drop the front sprocket down to 13 instead of 15, I bet my top speed would INCREASE.
Anyhow, it's a very reliable, fast, and agile bike. Only down fall to owning a Kawasaki, it's like owning a Ford....parts are hard to come by, and once you find em, they're expensive! Plastic is somewhat easy to find, but I'm currently looking for a new steering column (mine was twisted in an accident) and I can't find one anywhere. And I don't particularly feel like spending $300 at the dealer. In a nut shell, if you can find a Tecate in good shape for under $2500 you're in luck! Email me if you have any questions, or know where I can find a steering column!

Go to www.quadracer.com and check out the links section. When you get there click on the section that says personal. It will pull up about 30 or more pages in alphabetical order and go to the tecate pages at the bottom. Lots of pics and plenty of links to other pages! In this section you will find the article that Dirt wheels magazine did on the Tecate 4. Bone stock the Tecate has an incredible top speed of 74.26 mph. One fast son of a biotch and very attractive to boot!

I owm T4 and this is very common. I have several friends Who have tecate's Take your sterring shaft out and note the down sized area at the top of the neck where the top clamp is. Take it to a machine shop and have them cut 4-5 inches futher down and replace with a solid shaft turn the clamp area to original specs then weld the top plate to this. A good shop can do this easiley. I also added 2.5 inches to my stem so it could have gussets put under the top clamp plate, this will also help if you put on aftermarket dirt bike bars (kx hi is the best for long arm riders) this can help for leverage for sterring.
I will agree on the ford statement> Howevwe to stay green you have to work alittle harder, this will make you apperciate your quad and the abuise you can give it note a factory steering stem is no longer avail. fyi mike
