I'm GOING to do it. I just have to find someone who can weld the muffler cap back on. I suppose taking the muffler off will make it easier to do the work? I want to do it not only for the extra power, but because it's been said that it sounds a lot better. I'm just not sure whether to go 6 or 8 holes and whether to make them 3/8" or 1/2"

I think the only hard thing about it would be the rewelding of the cap. If i do it i think i am going to do what nyroc said "6 3/8 in holes drilled with a 12 in drill bit." Has any one repainted the muffler so a park ranger doesn't get suspicious??? ( I mean if i saw a muffler that had a different color on it i would wonder what was going on-- new weld )

I took mine off, marked the cap and exhaust tube, cut the end off in a band saw, drilled 6 1/2" holes, cleaned the paint onthe tube and the cap, lined the marks back up, welded it back together, used flat black engine paint, re-installed, jetted, now with a winch and mount in high gear she will pull the tires...
1/2" holes or 3/8" either will produce power your prefrence on how loud.....

If you can, remove the muffler from the bike, THEN do the cutting/welding. I cut mine apart with a band saw, right through the end cap's weld. After the re-weld, you couldn't tell I had it apart! I also tacked some s.s. screen(1/8" grid) inside the outlet, so the ranger couldn't shove his pencil too far up the muffler. GOOD LUCK!
