Is the service manual worth buying?
#1
Since the owners manual outlines basic maintenance procedures, is the Service manual a worthwhile addition to the average p650 owner? I don't have extensive mechanical knowledge or tools, so I wont be tackling the harder procedures like valve adjustment etc...
Also, if so, where's the cheapest place to buy one?

I got mine when I bought my bike. You can buy it at Kawi's website for about $50. I think it is absolutely essential. You'll be able to better diagnose your bike and possibly repair/prevent problems that will otherwise cost many bucks to fix at the dealer.
You just spent a lot of money for your 650. The service manual is a small price to pay.

whats an example of what I can do with the service manual? I realize it's not super expensive in relation to the investment of the bike, but I also just bought an extended warranty.....

Hey lightman,
Im not to mechanically inclined either (sorry about spelling) but i belive it is worth it. I bought mine from a dealer for 50 bucks. Came in handy when i blew a fuse. (Pluged in my father in laws new spot light, poped my fuse like it wasn't even there.) Just opened my book and found the problem 1 5a fuse and i was back in business Scared the sh#$ out of me though i thought my new 8,000.00 bike was messed up.
Just go get one, it answer's a lot of simple questions with more detail than an owner's man. will. Also I would learn how to work on your bike... sooner or later your gonna have to anyway. I am still learning the ropes with mine but the service man. makes it a lot easier.

Lightman--- The manual would STILL serve you well, even though you do not do heavy repair. It has LOTS of data. Capacities, weights, torque specs., etc. It also has trouble shooting flow charts, wiring diagrams. It has knowledge, and THAT is worth way more than $50, IMO.
