mojave valves
#3
I've never adjusted the valves on this bike so I would not know if they have pulled through the head and the bike does'nt sound so good right now I burned through a tank faster than my wifes snail blazer . any tell tail sign's to look for ? what's the time line on this job ? and the big question ,cost of doing it yourself as aposed to getting it down at the shop !

hopefully by adjusting the valves , like the distanse between the top of the spring and that metal peics that the camshaft presses if this is so it is really easy to do, just take all the plastic and the fuel tank off, then undo the 4 tob bolts on the head and the 2 on the left side (looking at it from behind) then carefully take it off you dont want to screw up the gasket (which is pretty thick and durable, more rubberish)
then take a feeler gauge set for .08 i tihnk it is and slid it between the spring and that metal peice take a socket and undo the top bolt on top of the metal peice on top of the springs after that stick the feeler gauge in and move it back in forth while adjusting the gap with a flathead screwdriver so that there is a LITTLE bit of pressure on it then hold in that place while you take screw the locknut back down on it so its tight then pull the flathead out and put a wrench on it and replace the flathead back on top of where you had it before, now while keeping the thing your holding with the flathead still while you tighten the bold with your other hand (has the wrench) and then tighten it as good as you can the put and appropriate socket on a tourqe wrench and tighten it to specifications (i tihnk it is like 25 or 30 go for 30) now double check the gap to see if it is still good now repeat all this for the other 4 remember to remove the cover out the LEFT side of the bike (sorta wedge it out its a tight fit) that should do it, clymer manual will tell you also how to do it , hope this helps

you know i don't know yet did find out that the chain tentioner was bad and the cam chain was strectched intake valves are normal . one out of two exhaust valves are questionable , but i am waiting for my new chain and cam chain tentioner to see if the niose is going to go away i get the parts this week and if this don't fix it then i'll pull the top end and tell you what to look for , but i did here that the valves are super soft and being off a small amount can screw them up.......

no break in time, but they recommeend every 30days or i think about the time when you change the oil and clean the air filter. if you don't have the book buy it it is the best 30.00 i've spent so far for it
