Default New P650 question

I am going to buy a black spring and snorkel. When I install the black spring should I remove the shims or shim, or replace with a thinner one? Also what is the best way to check the belt deflection?

If your planning on Modding, one of the first things you need to do is get more air and jetting for more gas. the snorkel fits in the same place as the stock one, only it's bigger and it lets in alot more cool air in.

You won't see any difference unless you jet and maybe a K&N filter. Its one of the least expensive mods you can do.

It fits exactly where the stock one goes and allows abour 30% more air volume into the airbox or at least that is my guesstimate. Definite performance boost. Add an aftermarket air filter and the smile on your face gets even bigger.

Default New P650 question

I removed the airbox cover this evening. I lined up beside my buddy and he ate my lunch. Is this how it will run with a snorkel? It runs better with the cover on. I hate to waste money on a snorkel if it will not benefit the performance. I am tempted to take the bike back and have them put it back to stock. Any suggestions?

I run 145/148 mains and am still way too lean to run w/o the airbox lid.

Does the twin air filter perform better than the stock filter? Have you tried a snorkel? Sorry to ask so many questions but it seems it runs better stock.

I can't speak for the K&N, but I don't think that the aftermarket filters flow alot more than the stocker. If your machine is new, I'd run it back to the dealer and get them to test it against a stock machine. If the stocker is faster, tell them you didn't pay them all that money for the mods only to be slower!

I have 8 hrs on it. I was thinking about letting them do the first oil change. What is your opinion on the black spring? Does it help? I am thinking of doing like you suggested, take it back and have them put it back stock. I paid quite a bit extra for the mods and they seem to hurt more than help.

Bjones

The problem with running your quad with the airbox off is its way lean man. The snorkle leans it out as well but not to the extreme. Depending on your elevation you might have to rejet to only run the snorkle properly as well.
