Starter problem on Prairie 650
#1
Have any of you guys had Prairie starter problems. The starter started clunking a few months ago when you would try and crank the engine. It progressively has gotten worse and yesterday self destructed. The starter still spins, but it doesn't crank the engine. It seems like I may have stripped the teeth or something. I haven't had the time to pull it apart yet. Any similar situations or suggestions?

been there, We cleaned it and it went away as fast as cleanned it, but this happened to me at 690 hours. Mine would crank for a few seconds then give up and I never heard it clank it just rewind down. I thought my brushes were toast but they weren't.

I'm pretty sure it isn't a brush problem. The starter spins fine. It almost sounds like the gear on the starter came apart? I've had alot of quads starters apart, but not this one yet. It there a gear in there that could have sheared teeth or just plain come off?

I finally got around to pulling the Prairie apart. Turns out the big ring gear behind the magneto lost about half of the teeth off it. The starter just tore them off. The quad only has about 200 miles on it. So, basically, I'm pretty ticked off about it. I'm thinking there must have been a problem with the part from day 1. Anybody have any similar problems?
