A true work machine... will it ever be?
Hi.
For years now our favorate ATV's have been KAWASAKI. Paticularly the
Bayou line.
We've researched and tried several other brands/models.
Actic-cats V-axle is a nice touch for ground clearence.
Our disapointments in atv's come in the "work"class machines.
These days it's more "fancy" items rather than reliable products/options.
Kawasaki was one of the last ATV producers that had a manual, larger engine atv line.
Perhaps some one at Kawasaki or other ATV maker will read this and take it to heart.
ATV:
300-500CC engine 4 stroke (SOHC), or liquid cooled.
Manual 5 speed transmition+rev with Hi/lo/lo lock select... Can be
2X4 or 4X4 (your choice)
V-Axle drive.
Rubber boots to protect not only the drive shafts but the steering
as well. Including steel plating to protect the drive and steering.
A sealed disc brake system (those kawasaki open brake systems are
nothing short of a nightmare.
Electric start with Recoil backup
Voltage regulated electronics (kawasaki systems tend to burn out headlights far too often). Also better shielding round the wiring it
self.
Stainless steel muffler and exaust manifold pipe.
Armored (plated) skid plates such as on the Kawasaki Prarie 650, or
Arctic-cat 500 auto.
Good headlighting system.
Front and rear square tubing (1/8" or 3/16" thick toobing) racks
Suspension system on Kawasaki are already quite good.
Feet guards. Those plates under the foot rests need work.
Good size fuel tank. (cut off valve included)
OH Yes! an inline fuel filter between the tank and the carburator
is a must.
The remainder of Kawasaki's designs seem alight.
If you are person tht's ever driven a GMC 1978..1980 Suburban 4X4
you know exactly what we are talking about in "reliable work horse"
they certainly don't make them like they used to. Nothing fancy, and
it worked.
If you have any sugestions on ATV's that might fit the bill. Please do not hesitate to offer your opinion.
Thank You.
