Clown,
You have an operatores manual in there, there is a break in sequence to go by. If you follow your manufacturers recommendations then there will be no problem if anything goes wrong. There are many ways to break in a motor and there is many threads detailing a number of senarios so a search on the forum try there first.

When in doubt trust your manual!!!!!

clown- all the mods are more a personal thing than necessary. In my case it is something I enjoy doing and when you get it right the rewards can be outstanding.

AS for tires your 650 has more than enough power to turn whatever tire or size of tire you want. I too enjoy trail and mud riding. My first set of tires were 26" vamps 9.5 front/ 12 rear, I loved them great tire a little on the heavy side. My present set are 27" bi/tri claws, great tire to, more ground clearance is always good. The choices are end less and sometimes confusing so just find some and go for it.

I'm doing mods on mine because I put heavier tires on and wanto get back closer to where the speed was with those lightweight stock tires.

My bro beat me in a drag quite bad. Got so mad i almost sold my 650. Turns out the jetting was off. And i had a broken carb spring that only let the front carb open half way. Check your carb springs by taking out the airfilter and stick you finger in the carb and see if the slides open with your finger all the way. If they dont thats your problem. Also with the mods you have i think your a tad on the rich side. With what you have done to yours you should only have to jet up one size. The 650 comes a little rich stock and usually dont need a rejet with the exhaust mod. The snorkle only requires one jet size bigger. Also check your belt deflection to make sure its spot on. That can make quite a difference too.

I've heard that 650's come a little on the rich side, but at the dealer where I got mine, they come on the lean side. Mine was a little lean and asked the salesman and he said they all come on the lean side there. It may be where they are shipped to.

Your half right rebelds. My 650 was lean on the bottom stock from the idle mixture screws. The main jets are a little rich though. I am at under 500ft elevation and mine was rich except for idle which was lean. I messed around with jetting so much i was about ready to give up. Then i saw what everyone is running with a pipe and the dg snorkle. Then i realised the jetting is to much for the exhaust mod as it doesnt flow as much as a pipe. Changed it and i was right. Was smoking my brother like i should have been all along. Due to his being stock with the exception of the same tires i run.

nicer day today did some testing, throttle restricter is ok, the bike runs at 80 kph @ 6400 rpm. rpm climes to 5200 quickly then real slow to 6400. is this normal. I tried this with and without air box lid on with little or no change.

going from no airbox lid to airbox lid wont help. Its one extreme to the other. Rich on or lean off. Take the needle spacers out drop one jet size and try it. I can bet its your problem. Check to see that the carb cables are adjusted right also. If the cables arent adjusted right your carbs wont open all the way. You can tell if they are adusted properly by listening to the carbs when you open the throttle quickly to its stops with the engine off. If you hear a clicking in the carbs its right. If there isnt any clicking lengthen the adjuster in the throttle cable till they click.
